The old Aaron Rodgers that football fans love to hate returned on Monday during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. The veteran quarterback blasted former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci on live TV.

McAfee took his entourage to the Steelers spring training camp for a casual conversation about Rodgers’ goals with his team and post-retirement plans. The discussion took a wild turn when Rodgers went off the rails and mocked Fauci for recently invoking the Fifth Amendment during a Senate hearing this past week.

Can you tell us about your mindset coming into your last season?

Pat McAfee asked Rodgers

Little did the ESPN personality know what awaited him.

I’m gonna plead the Fifth… like that absolute coward Tony Fauci. Absolute coward. Are you kidding me? You get a pardon and you’re and you pleaded over 100 times at the White House? What are you scared of, Tony? I thought you were the science. ‘I am science,’ and you get up there and can’t answer a question? What are we doing?

Aaron Rodgers said as McAfee and his colleague giggled

According to a FOX News report, Fauci pled the Fifth 111 times during a Senate hearing on the advice of his attorneys, to answer questions from the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, chaired by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. Fauci was questioned over his response to the pandemic and his policy decisions. The former White House COVID adviser has been accused of gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China.

Aaron Rodgers doubled down on his COVID-19 vaccine statement

Aside from criticizing Fauci, Rodgers reminded McAfee and the listeners of the show about his viewpoint on the COVID-19 vaccine. The 42-year-old famously refused to take shots of the vaccine, making himself the target of public ire.

Rodgers has remained rooted to his beliefs.

I feel great about it. I told you I’d be on the right side of history when I had that mustache that we were in New York.

Rodgers further added that the COVID-19 vaccine was rolled out quickly despite not going through proper clinical trials.

You have no idea what the consequences are. There’s no informed consent; you can’t even look at the insert to know what you’re doing. They’re not even pulling the plunger back to make sure that they got in the right spot in the arm. Like, what are you even talking about here? The insanity.

Will Aaron Rodgers play in the pre-season?

Aaron Rodgers hasn’t played competitive football since the Texans knocked the Steelers out in the wildcard round earlier in the year. There were doubts about whether he would even return to the Steelers or retire. The four-time NFL MVP eventually decided to play his 22nd year in the NFL.

Moreover, the Steelers replaced Mike Tomlin with Mike McCarthy as the new head coach. McCarthy is partly the reason Rodgers decided to come back. He won his only Super Bowl ring while playing under McCarthy at the Green Bay Packers.

Rodgers doesn’t usually like to suit up during preseason games. However, he just might this year, because McCarthy wants him to.

He [wants me out there for] 30 or 40 plays. I said, ‘Mike, if you want me to play, I’ll play.’ I’m not saying I want to do it. But if he wants me to, I will.

Aaron Rodgers told Mike Silver of The Athletic

The Steelers open their preseason account against the Packers before hosting the New York Jets on day two. They close out the friendly matches by facing the Buffalo Bills.
