In Short
  • AJ Brown's future with the Philadelphia Eagles is uncertain, with potential trade discussions expected to resume around June 1.
  • The New England Patriots are reportedly highly interested in acquiring AJ Brown, making a trade likely.
  • Analysts believe that trading AJ Brown could negatively impact quarterback Jalen Hurts and the Eagles' offense.

Every time the name AJ Brown comes up, it is mostly about his future with the Philadelphia Eagles and how this offseason could be the last time he stays with the franchise.

Time and again, the star wideout has given the team chances to fix his dissatisfaction with the offense. He needs passes to have an impact on the game, as do most top receivers.

Not getting enough can frustrate even the calmest of them, and that has been the narrative surrounding the Ole Miss alum over the past two seasons.

His body language during the 2025 season justifies his multiple trade requests. But what it does not justify is how the Eagles are planning to address it.

It seems that changing the offensive coordinator was not enough, as AJ Brown‘s demeanor has not changed. With the draft approaching, a trade is unlikely. But come June 1st, everything will change.

The Eagles remain open to trading AJ Brown, the Patriots remain highly interested in acquiring the star receiver, and conversations are expected to resume shortly on or before June 1, likely culminating in a deal, per league sources. As one source said about the Patriots’ pursuit of Brown, they’ll “definitely be engaging then.” A trade to New England is now considered likely.

This is a follow-up to ESPN Insider’s earlier opinion that the Eagles will be looking to trade AJ Brown after June 1st, when the dead cap they will incur in that trade will drop by more than $20 million.

Dan Orlovsky feels Eagles’ relationship with AJ Brown is over

There is no doubt that Adam Schefter‘s revelation is going to upset the Philadelphia Eagles’ fans. But Dan Orlovsky believes it is a necessary move.

This is going to happen… The relationship in Philly has run its course… When AJ’s at his best, he’s a top-five receiver in the NFL. So I don’t want to minimize the hole that it’s going to create, but trading him just feels like the necessary thing.

Dan Orlovsky said on First Take

The former quarterback acknowledged that losing a standout receiver such as the Mississippi native will have an impact on the Eagles. After all, he was the catalyst that helped them win a Super Bowl and even go to one a couple of years before.

However, Orlovsky admits that it is time to part ways. Both the Eagles and the wide receiver need to move on, and a trade is the best way they can do that. It would have been better for the Eagles if Brown stayed, but that is no longer an option.

Losing AJ Brown will impact Jalen Hurts, says analyst

While Dan Orlovsky suggested that losing AJ Brown would have an impact on the Philadelphia Eagles, another analyst went on to claim that the impact could be much worse.

Jalen Hurts will probably be worse this upcoming year…They are worse when they lose AJ Brown… I get it. I get why Philly is doing it. But make no mistake, they are worse because of it.

Danny Parkins said on First Things First

The analyst pointed to all the recent reports of Jalen Hurts‘ negativity and how they have pointed out that the QB is not good at adjusting to the team’s needs.

Danny Parkins added that when a quarterback loses his top wide receiver, they tend to struggle, at least until they build some rapport with the other receivers on the team.

At the same time, his colleagues pointed out that after the ESPN article came out, many were supporting AJ Brown. That is because his past frustrations were now making sense.
