The roof at the CDMX Arena would have blown off on Saturday in Mexico City had it not been for AJ Styles screwing over heavy crowd favorite Dominik Mysterio at TripleMania XXXIII. The latter was gunning to become AAA’s Mega Champion in a Fatal-4-Way clash including Dragon Lee, El Grande Americano, and the champ, El Hijo Del Vikingo.

The closing moments of the match saw Mysterio frog-splashing Vikingo and going for the cover. Just when the referee was about to go for the third count, his leg got pulled by a masked figure who happened to be Styles. The latter delivered a Phenomenal Forearm followed by a Styles Clash to cost ‘Dirty Dom’ the opportunity to become a double champion.

Vikingo, who’d been booed the entire match, got jeered even more intensely after the successful retention of his title. One might wonder, why did Styles need to do it? For the unversed, the 48-year-old wrestling veteran was ousted by Dom at SummerSlam in an underhanded manner. The Judgment Day member clocked Styles with his boot when the referee wasn’t in a position to catch it.

The San Diego native would then pin Styles after a frog splash to retain his Intercontinental Championship. On the subsequent episode of Raw, ‘The Phenomenal One’ tried having a wild swing at Mysterio’s face with one of the latter’s boots. Even though Dom evaded the first shot, Styles proceeded to hurl the boot at Mysterio, and it caught him on the second attempt.

Last week on Raw, Mysterio got one up on Styles when the IC Champ, along with El Grande Americano, defeated the former WWE Champion in a tag team showdown with Dragon Lee partnering Styles. The latter got pinned by Americano after ‘Dirty Dom’ hit him with a metal plate.

For how long have Dominik Mysterio and AJ Styles been feuding now?

The ongoing feud between Dominik Mysterio and AJ Styles isn’t over by any stretch. It began way back in May and eventually received high remarks from the fans for its weekly progression marked by a number of comedic segments. They were set to collide for the IC title at Night of Champions. However, an unforeseen rib injury saw Rhea Ripley‘s on-screen ex-boyfriend withdraw from his scheduled title defense.

Mysterio recently confirmed in an interview that the injury was real and not a part of the storyline. WWE didn’t take him off television since the 28-year-old wasn’t seriously hurt, and he would continue to appear in non-physical roles. The San Diego native often flaunted a doctor’s note for weeks to keep Styles at bay.

‘The Georgia Pitbull’, however, kept breathing down Mysterio’s neck and ultimately received his title shot at SummerSlam, as mentioned above. The ending to that match was heavily controversial, and a rematch is very much in the cards. It’d be interesting to see if Mysterio is made to wrestle Styles on August 31 at Clash in Paris.

Konnan includes Dominik Mysterio in the AAA Hall of Fame induction speech after getting the honor from Rey Mysterio

One of the most heartwarming moments of TripleMania XXXIII was the AAA Hall of Fame induction of Konnan. The 61-year-old, who’s also a part of the promotion’s creative team, got his well-deserved honor by none other than his longtime friend, Rey Mysterio.

The latter has never refrained from expressing his gratitude for Konnan and his mentorship that helped Mysterio kick-start his wrestling career. A couple of years ago, Konnan inducted ‘The Master of 619’ into the WWE Hall of Fame. During his speech, the Cuban-American wrestler swiped at Dominik Mysterio by wondering if he could replace him in the Mysterio household.

It was done to accentuate the on-screen father-son beef between Rey and Dominik, as they were set to take each other on at WrestleMania 39. But last night, Konnan noted that he immensely loves Mysterio and his family members, including ‘Dirty Dom’.
