CM Punk returned to WWE television this past Monday on Raw in his hometown of Chicago and ended the fairytale run of Sami Zayn. ‘The Best in the World’ wrestled the Undisputed WWE Title away from Zayn, causing the latter to lose the championship belt in just 9 days after winning it at Night of Champions.
While those at the Allstate Arena erupted in pure joy at their hometown hero becoming an 8-time world champion in WWE, there’s a different section of fans that’s unhappy and is claiming that ‘The Last Real Good Guy’ got robbed. Does AJ Styles also feel the same way as those fans? The short answer is no.
Styles shared his thoughts on it during his Phenomenally Retro podcast. The retired wrestler went with the “letting it play out” argument before starting to dump on everything. The WWE Hall of Famer hoped that there’s an actual reason for the company taking the world title off Zayn that early.

The Jacksonville-born wrestling great brought up the crash out that Sami Zayn had backstage after losing to CM Punk on Raw. It’s making AJ believe that there’s more than meets the eye. He also suspected it as the beginning of a character shift for the ex-‘Honorary Uce’.
Styles found it a bit odd that Zayn dropped the belt as early as he did because world champions usually hold onto their titles for a healthy amount of time. ‘The Face That Runs the Place’ didn’t know what to make of Sami Zayn‘s title reign lasting under ten days. Styles backed the WWE creative for being better at writing stories than he would and called for seeing where it goes.
He said on his podcast last week that he didn’t want Zayn to be treated as a transitional champion. Styles affirmed that the Arabic-speaking WWE star was more than capable of being a world champion. However, now that CM Punk has woken Sami Zayn up to reality, it would be interesting to see where the story goes next.
‘The Last Real Good Guy’ might get his rematch for the championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event next weekend considering Punk is scheduled to work the event. WWE could also take a different route and book a triple-threat match with Cody Rhodes, Gunther, and Zayn to determine who will challenge Punk for the gold at SummerSlam.
What’s being said about CM Punk’s plans as the world champion?
For those wondering what’s in store for the brand-new Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk, he’s expected to have a lengthy title reign. It was noted during WrestleVotes Radio via Fightful Select. That being said, most of Punk’s time as the world champion will be on SmackDown, as he’s now being featured to be a part of the blue brand.

The report added that NBCU had been pushing for the 47-year-old to be a part of SmackDown for over a year. The said conglomerate that owns exclusive media rights to SmackDown view CM Punk as a premier star. However, that wouldn’t keep him from making sporadic appearances on Raw whenever needed.
Dave Meltzer reported a while ago that WWE was planning on moving the ‘Second City Saint’ to SmackDown to balance out the rosters. ‘The Voice of the Voiceless’ has posted his schedule for July, in which he will be making every SmackDown on top of live events.

Coming off his big win on Raw in Chicago, the expectation within WWE was that CM Punk would take on Cody Rhodes with the title on the line at SummerSlam. The company initially planned on holding it off until next year’s WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia. It would’ve seen Punk challenging Rhodes for the title.

However, as per False Finish, WWE was preparing for this year’s SummerSlam to be better than WrestleMania 42. Moreover, the company has got to be sweating at the abysmal ticket sales for SummerSlam thus far. The latest estimate from WrestleTix has the Saturday night currently sitting at barely 22,000 tickets sold.
It might be time to pull a WrestleMania 7. WWE right now isn't hot enough for 2 2-night stadium shows. This might be a good wake up call to kick shit into fourth gear https://t.co/B0VDvNzc5U
