Sami Zayn‘s first reign as the WWE Champion ended up being tragically short as he lost the title to CM Punk on this week’s Raw in Chicago. There couldn’t have been a better homecoming for Punk than this. However, as for Zayn, everything came crumbling down for him in the Windy City.
WWE has released a video capturing Zayn’s raw emotions after losing the world championship that he adored like his kid in the time he held it. As seen below, a distraught Zayn could be seen asking how Punk, who hadn’t been around for months, could just walk right back and be gifted a shot at the title that Zayn had to crawl for almost 25 years to finally win?

‘The Last Real Good Guy’ even hurled expletives at Punk before saying he had no business and eventually breaking down in tears. That didn’t just end right there. A section of fans could actually see Zayn from where he was in that moment. Some ruthless individuals in attendance rubbed salt on his wound by abusing Zayn, who clapped back by flipping them off.

Quite interestingly, the Bloodline‘s Jacob Fatu also reacted to Sami Zayn’s outburst. Could it be a foreshadowing of the former ‘Honorary Uce’ being positioned to revert back to the Roman Reigns-led faction down the road? Time will tell. For now, the focus will undeniably shift towards the brand-new Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk.

He’s been announced to appear on this week’s SmackDown, and it shouldn’t come across as a surprise since WWE had been planning to move him to the blue brand for some time. With SummerSlam just over three weeks to go, the WWE title picture has a lot of moving parts to look into. First and foremost, Sami Zayn would definitely want to get his rematch with the ‘Best in the World’ as soon as he possibly can.
CM Punk winning the Undisputed WWE Championship and heading into SummerSlam to defend it has been planned for well over a month.

Punk was initially set to challenge Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 43 in Riyadh but WWE is preparing for SummerSlam in Minneapolis to be better than… pic.twitter.com/ppQTTBpslx
However, since the plans call for CM Punk defending the championship against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, Zayn might not make the cut to wrestle for the gold at the ‘Biggest Party of the Summer’. But he certainly can challenge Punk for the title at Saturday Night’s Main Event at MSG on July 18.
It would be a major roadblock en route to the rumored Punk/Rhodes clash at SummerSlam. Speaking of Rhodes, he got taken out by Gunther at the start of this week’s Raw. It resulted in the doctors deeming him medically unfit to have his scheduled match with Zayn for the title. It would be interesting to see if there’s more to Rhodes’ rivalry with ‘The Ring General’.
Becky Lynch claims Sami Zayn got robbed on Raw
When Sami Zayn shocked the world at Night of Champions, the amount of love and support he got from not just his fans but also his peers was truly overwhelming. The Syrian-Canadian wrestler also shared a wholesome backstage moment with Kevin Owens and Becky Lynch. ‘The Man’ surprised Zayn by bringing Owens in, and they later posed for a photo. They were all smiles in that moment.

But just a few days later, Sami Zayn is no longer the WWE Champion, and it’s something that doesn’t sit right with Becky Lynch. She claimed immediately after Zayn’s polarizing title loss to CM Punk on Raw that Sami was robbed. ‘The Big Time Becks’ has had her issues with the ‘Second City Saint’ and she couldn’t stand how he took the championship off her close friend in Zayn.
SAMI WAS ROBBED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As much of a pity it was for the Arabic-speaking WWE star to lose the most coveted prize in sports entertainment in under 10 days, the flip side of the coin is that it’ll give Zayn more ammo to double down on his ongoing character arc.
Would the sheer disappointment and the sense of being wronged finally get Sami Zayn to employ wicked ways in his system? This could be the beginning of the 41-year-old turning into a full-blown bad guy, something that he has denied time and again since stressing that he’s the last real good guy walking around in WWE.
