A’ja Wilson and Angel Reese are two of the biggest names in the WNBA today. Both are at different stages in their respective careers but have already done a lot for the league.
Both stars took to the court for the WNBA All-Star Game. The All-Star Game is known for producing some incredible moments and keeping the fans entertained. Unfortunately, many felt that the game was not exactly a display of maximum effort.
There was a moment during the All-Star Game that captured a lot of eyeballs. It was an awkward moment that featured Wilson and Reese.
With over seven minutes to go in the second quarter, Reese went for a lay-up. Without leaving her feet, Wilson rejected Reese by simply having her arms vertical. Wilson was left shocked as she covered her mouth in disbelief, and they both shared a laugh. In the very next sequence, Reese tripped over Wilson’s foot, which prompted them to crack up once again.
Angel drives right at A’ja, who stands vertical and gets the block without leaving her feet, and the two laugh about it as they head back upcourt. As they turn to separate, Angel trips over A’ja’s foot, and they’re laughing again. pic.twitter.com/emCGAy25qN

Both Wilson and Angel Reese are dominant players in the paint. Reese has often been compared to the three-time WNBA champion due to their similar size and style of play. Hence, it is not surprising to see the two clash head-on during the All-Star Game. The surprising part to many was the lack of intensity and effort shown by the players during the game.
This was Wilson’s eighth All-Star appearance, while Reese was making her third. Reese was drafted by the Chicago Sky in 2024 and was named an All-Star in her first two seasons. She was traded to the Atlanta Dream this year.
She had a slow start to the season as she integrated herself into a new team but she has shown a lot of growth since as she was named an All-Star for the third consecutive season. Earlier this month, the 24-year-old made headlines when she voiced her frustrations over her teammates Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray not being named as starters for the All-Star Game.

The awkward moment between the two superstars was quick to go viral. The sequence was perhaps the best example of their bond yet.
While they exchanged a laugh between each other, the fans were not so forgiving across social media.
That’s just her natural instinct😂😂. She looked sorry after though

Bro, what? That looks like a 68 year old unc trying to make a layup.

I know it was mostly an exhibition game; but, it was a pathetic display. “I shot, your turn”. I’m glad I didn’t pay to see it.

Fans criticized the players for not giving much effort. The WNBA is not alone in receiving criticism over a lack of intensity during All-Star Games. It has been an issue in the NBA as well.
A’ja Wilson speaks about her block on Angel Reese
A’ja Wilson is undoubtedly one of the greats of the game. She has pretty much completed the game at just 29-years-old. The Las Vegas Aces center is an elite scorer and one of the best shot blockers in the game. However, it is still remarkable how she blocked Reese’s shot without putting in any effort in the play. Wilson and Team Spoon eventually walked away with a 129-122 victory.

After the game, Wilson even apologized for accidentally blocking the shot after the exhibition.
Angel was not supposed to do that. I was trying to get out of the way. I do not like to block shots during all star games, because what am I doing? I’ve never had that happen to me, and I’m so sorry.

This is not the first time the WNBA has been criticized over the lack of intensity during their All-Star Games, and it certainly won’t be the last. There were 19,783 fans in attendance, a new WNBA All-Star Game record. Therefore, it is not unfair for the fans to demand more from the players in action.
