Angel Reese Comparing Herself to A’ja Wilson Before Miserable 1-8 Shooting Night Leaves Fans in Splits – “Who’s Going to Tell Her?”
Superstar forward Angel Reese has struggled to consistently prove her worth so far in her first season with the Atlanta Dream.

- Angel Reese aimed to emulate A'ja Wilson's success in the WNBA but struggled in a recent game.
- She finished with nine points and eight turnovers, raising concerns among fans about her performance.
- Reese's family attended her first home game in Atlanta, witnessing what many consider her worst professional outing.
When Angel Reese arrived in the WNBA, her goal was to become one of the best players in the league. Naturally, that meant she had to keep A’ja Wilson as her goal.
The Las Vegas Aces superstar has established herself as the best women’s basketball player in the world. A record four league MVPs, three championships, two Finals MVPs, three Defensive Player of the Year awards, and countless records, she is the standard.
Reese wanted to work towards that goal during her time with the Chicago Sky, and managed to learn a lot from former head coach Tyler Marsh, who was Wilson’s coach at the Aces.
The 24-year-old did improve a lot from her rookie season, and now, with the Atlanta Dream, the expectation was that she would continue to improve.
She’s obviously a great player. She’s the MVP for a reason. But I know I’m a good player too. I can guard her well.
Angel Reese told NBC’s Jordan Cornette
This was not a lofty ambition, considering every young player aspires to beat the best. Angel Reese said this heading into her clash against Wilson at a sold-out State Farm Arena.
"She's a great player, she's the MVP for a reason but I know I'm a great player too."

The only problem was that it did not pan out how she wanted it. The Atlanta Dream forward managed to hold her opponent to 20 points. That can be seen as an achievement, considering Wilson dropped 45 points in her previous game.
But what bothered fans was when she almost compared herself to the seven-time All-Star, and then had potentially one of the worst games of her career.
Fans troll Angel Reese after embarrassing performance
Angel Reese finished the game with nine points, eight rebounds, three assists, and one block. When one checks those stats on the first screen of their respective devices, it might not seem like a bad outing against last year’s co-Defensive Player of the Year.
But when they scroll right and notice that the Dream forward needed seven free throws to get to those nine points, reality sets in. Reese attempted eight shots and managed to convert just one.
On top of that, those watching on television saw her turn the ball over eight times, one shy of her all-time high. That is why several fans took to social media to comment on her original comparison against A’ja Wilson.
They felt she was out of her mind and needed a reality check after such an embarrassing performance. Check out examples of those reactions below:
Who’s going to tell her?

Awareness and IQ is trash for such a “great player”. I stand by it, she’s an energy player like Verajão just riding the hype. Can’t blame her, it’s a business 🤷🏾♂️

She clearly didn’t put any work into her game in the off season. It honestly looks like the first time she’s ever stepped foot on a court

She was correct in saying “people are here to watch me too”,,, just not in the way she thinks. 🧱

She’s been exposed. She hasn’t improved She’s regressed as a player. The. Chicago Sky got 2 first rounders. Right now looks like a great trade for Chicago

In their previous game against Paige Bueckers’ Dallas Wings, Reese notched her best performance of this season. But in the other two games so far, she has been poor.
Fans are already questioning whether she has worked on her game this offseason, as the proof so far says otherwise. They wonder if these performances might end up becoming the reason the Atlanta Dream’s championship goals fall flat.
Angel Reese’s mother and brother were there to cheer for her
Angel Reese bought a house in Chicago last year, believing she was going to stay as the face of the Sky until she retires. All that changed when she called the organization and her teammates out in an explosive interview.

Despite her apology, the franchise felt their relationship had run its course, which is why the Maryland native is now settling down into her new life in Atlanta.
Since the two-time All-Star is still getting her feet wet, her family decided to support her in her first home game in front of the Atlanta faithful.

Her mother and her Washington Wizards star brother were seated courtside to watch the 6’3″ star go to work. Unfortunately, they had to witness arguably Reese’s worst game of her professional career.
