In Short
  • Pistons fans chanted "Angel Reese" at Wendell Carter Jr. during a Game 7 loss to mock his poor performance.
  • The Detroit Times also trolled Angel Reese by reposting a video of her in a Pistons jersey after the Magic's playoff exit.
  • Orlando Magic's Paolo Banchero expressed doubts about the team's ability to progress in the postseason after three consecutive first-round exits.

Wendell Carter Jr. and his Orlando Magic did a good job building a 3-1 lead over the East’s No. 1 team, the Detroit Pistons, in their first-round playoff battle.

Many felt that this was the young Florida-based team starting to show its true potential after struggling to make something out of its regular season.

At the same time, basketball fans were left bewildered by the Pistons’ embarrassing show, as they had been tipped all season long that they were worthy of being in the fight for this year’s NBA championship.

Sometimes, regular-season performances do not resonate in the playoffs, and that is what the Pistons had to figure out before working hard to tie the series in Game 6.

The momentum was back with them, and knowing they would have the support of their fans, the team went to work to ensure they did not lose another first-round series.

Stellar performances in the second and third quarters saw the home team take a sizeable lead. For the Magic, the deficit was too much for them to claw back.

With a little more than three minutes left, and the game out of reach, Wendell Carter Jr. was at the free-throw line. At this point, Detroit Pistons fans started chanting Angel Reese‘s name.

That was a direct clapback at the WNBA star who had trolled Jalen Duren after Magic star Jamal Cain dunked on her alleged former beau in Game 4.

Pistons fans were basically trolling Carter Jr. after he posted just 8.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2 assists in the four losses to their team. This was them having the last laugh over the Atlanta Dream star.

After Detroit Pistons fans mocked Wendell Carter Jr. and his girlfriend Angel Reese, the city’s media were not far behind when it came to sending a message.

The Detroit Times, a publication that covers its city’s NBA team thoroughly, decided to up the ante on the WNBA star. They reposted her video from the 2024 season, when she wore a Dennis Rodman Pistons jersey to her Chicago Sky game.

The video shows the now-Atlanta Dream star posing for the camera, as if to show her allegiance to the Pistons. The Times also added a caption and tagged Reese so that she knows what they are saying.

Play the song.

The Detroit Times wrote

This was the publication letting her know that she probably did not do right by stoking the flames. Now it is her time to face the music. Not only is Angel Reese‘s boyfriend and his Orlando Magic out of the playoffs, but for that to happen at the hands of the Pistons is epic karma.

Magic star Paolo Banchero has a blunt response about the team’s prospects

While Angel Reese and Wendell Carter Jr. get trolled, the Orlando Magic are also facing some music about their lack of development in the past three years.

For a team that is brimming with young top-tier talent, exiting the playoffs in the first round in three straight seasons will lead to major questions about the current roster’s ceiling.

I want to say yes, but we haven’t been out of the first round.

Paolo Banchero replied

This was the leading superstar’s blunt reaction when asked if this team was good enough to last longer in the postseason. Most of the noise surrounding the Magic has been about head coach Jamahl Mosley‘s future.

But if this is the response from their most important player, questions will be asked whether the front office knows what they are doing. To their benefit, the team’s injury struggles have compounded matters. However, a team can only hide behind that excuse for a short while.
