The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season so far has been a nightmare for Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman. He started the season struggling to find speed and consistency, before the vertigo diagnosis following COTA mid-race retirement that forced him to miss four race weeks. He made his return after recovery last Sunday at Bristol.

Unfortunately, his day ended in a disappointment, with an early race wreck earning him a P37 finish. He is searching redemption this week at Kansas and ahead of the weekend talked to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio about his health status. He admitted that he is getting close to his 100% in terms of race fitness, as missing out on one moth of racing has hindered his progress.

I feel pretty good, you know; I think the things that I’m not 100% on, or just, you know, from things that aren’t from not being okay, it’s from not being able to train like normal and be in a race car like normal for a month, right? So, kind of, you know, there were a couple weeks there that training got turned down pretty much. And then, you know, it’s never good to not be in a race car.

Alex Bowman told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Further talking about the point, Alex Bowman admitted that he is more like the comic charter Humpty Dumpty at the moment and asserted that he is patched up ready to get back to winning. The major challenge though is missing out on five weeks’ worth of learning in the redesigned 2026 Chevy in which even the most experienced racers are struggling.

Everybody’s, everybody’s getting better every week, right? So when you miss four or five races and all of a sudden you’re, you know, four or five weeks of learning behind. So other than that. I feel as good as good. I can; I’m a little bit like Humpty Dumpty at this point in my life. But I’m patched back up and ready to rip.

Alex Bowman added.

Alex Bowman desperately wants to turn things around at Kansas

In a separate conversation, Bowman was asked about his expectations for the upcoming race week at Kansas. He pointed out that he is looking forward to making a comeback at Kansas, a track that has always been his favorite. The veteran believes with enough hard work, he can redeem himself this Sunday.

Kansas [Speedway] is one of my favorite tracks and one I always look forward to. It’s no secret it’s been a tough start to the season for our No. 48 team. With that, it’s hard to say that we could go win, but we are typically so good that we really could. We’ve got a lot of work to do but Kansas is a good place for us to get things turned around.

Alex Bowman said.

This weekend will mark the 21st carer start for the veteran at Kansas, where he has an average finish of 14.9 making it his second-best oval. His recent form of securing top-10 in six of the last seven races will also give him an edge. It would be interesting to see how the No:48 team will perform at the iconic venue.
