Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell is one of the most consistent and impressive drivers in the Toyota garage, known for him dominant wins as well as grinning out results on tough days. He is expected to lead JGR from the from once Denny Hamlin retires. But non-of this would have happened if not for a bribe from his mother.

On his appearance on the “The Couches That Made Us podcast” the No:20 Camry driver revealed how mother made his start racing. He grew up in a family with no ties to racing. His dad’s friend got him into the scene as he was involved in the micro-sprint scene. This helped him to become a racing fan.

It all started with a bribe from my mom, for sure…I grew up with Uncle Will and Uncle Will’s family. Daniel Moore used to run micro sprints there in Oklahoma. My family was not into racing at all. I went to the races with Uncle Will and Daniel and watched them and fell in love with it whenever I was three or four.

Christopher Bell said recently.

It was Uncle Will that fist identified the racing skills of young Christopher Bell; after seeing him drive a go-kart he got for the child. So, after talking with his dad and making some calls Will was able to secure an opportunity to run some hot laps for the Bell at the I-44 Speedway in Oklahoma City when he was just five years old.

Uncle Will got me in a go-kart out at his house whenever I must’ve been five, and I enjoyed it. Uncle Will was like, Hey, David, do you want to try and see if Christopher wants to race? My dad was like, Well sure, I don’t really know how…Uncle Will contacted one of his friends that had a junior sprint and we got a setup. We went out to I-44 Speedway in Oklahoma City. I was five years old at the time.

But after the entourage got everything set up for the youngster, by borrowing the car, helmets and even the race suit, Bell got scared and said he can’t do it. That’s when it his mom got involved. After explaining him how everyone worked hard to get him the opportunity and bribing him by promising a Nintendo 64 video game, she was able to convince the child to make the first and most important step.

I had to borrow a suit. We had to go scrounge and get gloves…I said, I don’t want to do this. This is too scary…My mom was like, You have to do this. All of these people brought the car here. I’m like…I’m not doing it.S he goes, Okay, I’ll get you a video game. I’ll get you a Nintendo 64 video game if you just give it a shot. Once I got in the car, I went out there and the rest is history.

Christopher Bell asserted.

Christopher Bell doesn’t regret anything about his NASCAR career

In an interview a month ago, Bell was asked that is there anything he regret about how his NASCAR career has paned out. He admitted that there is honestly nothing as he cherishes all moments and decisions that helped him to get to this point. That question is tough because, honestly, I wouldn’t have done anything different. Every really hard and deep, super life-changing decision that I’ve made has left me here today, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. So, I can genuinely say there’s not one important decision that I got wrong in my career.

Christopher Bell said.

The comments from the veteran racer shows he was able to have the right people growing up to be alongside him to build a strong career. He still has a lot left to achieve in the series and in order to do that he will have be as precise as he has been when he was young in decision making the future leader of Joe Gibbs Racing.
