The Bristol Cup race last Sunday witnessed Alex Bowman’s returns to race racing after sitting out for four race weeks owing to vertigo diagnosis. He got the medical clearance to make a comeback on one of the most challenging tracks on the schedule and unfortunately the day didn’t pan out as expected, with the veteran DNF-ing, earning a P37 finish.

2014 Cup champion Kevin Harvick, on the latest episode of his podcast, shared his thoughts on the veteran racer. He admitted that he was happy to see the racer back in the NO:48 HMS Chevy and highlighted how he picked the most challenging track for the return. The climate also didn’t him any favor as it was hotter than usual.

It’s great to have Alex Bowman back in the car. That’s the ride that he had and earned to get to this point. You couldn’t ask for a tougher racetrack to come back to than Bristol with all the G’s and all the heat. It was hot this weekend. Typically not that warm in the spring race at Bristol.

Kevin Harvick said on his podcast.

The veteran then shifted his focus to analyzing the performance from the Chevy team. Kevin Harvick pointed out that Alex Bowman and his crew didn’t show any signs of improvement, as they didn’t have the pace to match the top drivers in any sessions during the race week. They were running as bad as they did in the absence of their primary driver.

It’s good to see him back in the car, but now we’re back to analyzing the 48’s performance, and it wasn’t good. Throughout the weekend, they didn’t really have any speed and wound up in an accident.

Kevin Harvick asserted via Happy Hour podcast.

Then veteran pointed out that the major task at the hands of the team at the moment is to get the team back to finishing the race inside the top-10 and slowly get back to winning form. Alex Bowman desperately needs to win a race, as he has been winless for over two years, while his teammate are dominating and HMS needs their fourth car to as solid as the rest.

Now, they got to concentrate on we’ve got the driver’s health back where it needs to be. Now, what do we got to do to get this car back to where it needs to be, solidly in the top 10? That’ll be the next tall task that they have to figure out…If you’re going to keep your job, you’re going to have to win.

Kevin Harvick added.

HMS has given Alex Bowman more grace than he deserves

Ahead of the Bristol race weekend, Alex Bowman himself admitted that he hasn’t been matching expectations of him from the team. He pointed out that HMS has been backing him despite his struggles and him missing out on multiple races sinks 2022, owing to injuries. The veteran sometimes feels he is getting too much grace that he deserves.

I’ve put HMS in a tough spot multiple time now … since 2022, 2023 and now this. They’ve probably given me more grace at times than I deserve. So super thankful for that and just ready to get back rolling

Alex Bowman said.

It is true that HMS is backing their driver till the end, but there is a limit to how much they can invest when in return they are not getting race wins. Alex Bowman needs to find the winning form soon, considering there are many talented young Chevy drivers waiting in the wings for one life changing opportunity with Rick Hendrick.
