The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season so far hasn’t been kind to Richard Childress Racing and two times champion Kyle Busch. He has showed no signs of competing for wins in 2026 and many believes 2026 will be much worse for the veteran compared to the winless 2025.

2014 Cup champion Kevin Harvick talked about the veteran’s struggle in the latest episode of his podcast. The veteran admitted that though he has no inside knowledge about the chaos ate the Hall of Famer Richard Childress’ team, he believes some of the struggle is because of the chassis design of the car. Chevy had redesigned their car ahead of the season.

I don’t know that answer because I’m not within the walls. I can tell you that the keys to this racecar are details. It is how many details can you stack. That starts from when you get the chassis in the shop to the body panels that go on the car.

Kevin Harvick said on his podcast.

Other that Hendrick Motorsports’ no-team has gotten the details of the new Chevy right and that’s the reason why majority of the cars are struggling, while Toyota and Ford getting dominant wins. Kyle Busch and the whole RCR crew needs to time to adjust with the new cars and it combined with their already poor form, creates a concerning situation.

When you see some struggles like they’re having… You look at the Chevrolets in general. They’ve had a lot to work through… If you’re struggling, it’s all about your processes…and your simulation and your tools and who’s putting all that stuff into the simulator and what you’re getting out of the simulator into the simulation and how you put those and adapt those things to the setup of the car.

Kevin Harvick added via Happy Hour podcast.

Kevin Harvick also discussed the struggles of Trackhouse Racing in 2026

In the same podcast later, Kevin Harvick talked about Ross Chastain and the Trackhouse team. They have been struggling to make a mark in the 2026 season, just like Kyle Busch’s RCR. The car change and the overall organizational overhaul at Justin Marks’ team have made the team worse than they have ever been in the Next-Gen era.

They’re struggling. When you see Ross Chastain qualify sixth and get lapped… We saw that from a lot of guys this weekend… In the end, SVG has been the best Trackhouse car. But look at the changes, Ross has got a new crew chief. You got Connor [Zilisch] in the mix now; he’s got a new crew chief. We saw some changes within the organization that have happened, and right now it’s not clicking.

Kevin Harvick said.

Further talking about the point, the veteran pointed out that how the veteran Ross Chastain is getting defeated by the car, as soon he produces a string start the car give up on him. The No:1 Chevy driver can only do so much to get something out a car that doesn’t not deserve front row finishes.

The interesting part that I’ve heard Ross talk about in some of his interviews is the car will qualify okay, and it’ll take off good, but they’re terrible on the long runs…He would make that car fire off on the restarts by making bold moves. He could hang in there for 20-25 laps…Eventually, he just got further and further back in track position and wound up where that car was actually capable of running.

Kevin Harvick added.

The comments from the veteran shows RCR and Trackhouse Racing were hit big-time with the changes to the car design. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the duo in the coming days.
