It’s common for the best superstars in the fighting business to go against the promoters at one point in time. However, very few expected this from former UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who recently threatened to leave the promotion. This has attracted a variety of attention to the matter and experts’ analysis of this ongoing controversy in the UFC.

After his furious tweet bashing UFC for being disrespectful and retirement talks, Pereira confirmed that his account was hacked. ‘Poatan’ mentioned that he didn’t write the post and still maintains a good relationship with both Dana White and the UFC. However, following the news, former UFC champion turned analyst Daniel Cormier shared his opinion, refuting the ‘hacker’ claims altogether.

Pereira is a liar. Pereira did not get hacked. Pereira might have tweeted something and then somebody called him like, ‘Yo, calm down, let’s chill.’ I don’t believe the hacked thing, bro. It was too convenient and specific.

According to Cormier, everything began when UFC CBO Hunter Campbell traveled to Dagestan, visiting Islam Makhachev and Magomed Ankalaev personally. He believes Campbell aimed to book Ankalaev against Alex Pereira for a light heavyweight title bout during International Fight Week. Since Ankalaev always expressed readiness, he probably accepted the offer, but Pereira might have declined, as the preparation time is less.

DC suggested Campbell then sought a new title challenger for Ankalaev, which reportedly upset Pereira’s championship position and plans. This reaction likely pushed the Brazilian superstar into action, resulting in his pointed and timely tweet addressing the undesirable title situation.

DC’s claims have yet to be corroborated by the UFC, Pereira or Ankalaev for the time being. Meanwhile, Chael Sonnen backed Cormier’s theory, offering his own insight to support Cormier’s overall interpretation.

The hacker was very nice. For being a hacker, he was quite polite and quite specific. By the way, for Ankalaev to work harder to get a fight with a contender than a contender working harder to get a fight with a champion is a little unusual.

Chael Sonnen added.

DC isn’t alone in this theory, as many fans quickly saw through the hacker excuse and understood Pereira’s motive. After his recent loss, Pereira appears desperate to reclaim the light heavyweight belt and restore his dominant status within the division. Lack of visible support from UFC executives may have frustrated him, potentially causing his emotional social media outburst.

Beyond fighting, his stoic personality and fierce presence have created an aura, making him a marketing asset for UFC. As a result, when Pereira made that tweet, he immediately got the backing from fans. Among them was YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, who took this opportunity to mock UFC top brass in a deleted tweet.

Alex Pereira been the UFC savior time and time again. Fought 4 times in 11 months at the championship level on PPV. Always has my respect.

Paul has frequently criticized White, targeting fighter pay issues and lack of health insurance as major concerns in UFC management. Recently, Paul challenged Pereira to a boxing match, and the Brazilian seemed intrigued by the potential crossover opportunity presented. Paul claims he can defeat Poatan in boxing, silencing critics who question his legitimacy and skill within the squared circle.
