Chael Sonnen recently said on YouTube that Alex Pereira has the potential to become the first three-division champion. The success of Pereira at middleweight and light heavyweight has impressed everyone. Moreover, Pereira has the knockout power to fight in the heavyweight division and possibly make a championship push.

Chael Sonnen recently sat down for a conversation on the The Fighter and The Kid podcast. In one of those segments, Sonnen talked about Alex Pereira and what would happen if he did become the first-ever three-divisional champion by beating Tom Aspinall.

But if he became champ-champ-champ, and he is the first person ever that could actually do it, we stand back and go, ‘He actually might be able to.’ If he did that, we’re not out having a conversation on who the GOAT is. We will just refer to him as the GOAT.

Sonnen brought up comparisons with Georges St-Pierre and Daniel Cormier, who dominated two divisions. However, Sonnen highlighted the point that they could only go so far. St-Pierre, Cormier, or Henry Cejudo never spanned out or found success in a third division. However, judging by his career trajectory and the momentum he has built, Alex Pereira might just be the one to pull it off.
