Alexander Zverev gave a light-hearted yet frustrated response after losing the BOSS Open final to Taylor Fritz in Stuttgart. He joked that he doesn’t want to face Fritz again anytime soon. The American claimed a straight-sets win, 6-3, 7-6(0), to secure his fourth career title on grass.
Fritz delivered a strong performance throughout the match. Despite weather interruptions, he maintained his rhythm and composure. He dominated on serve, winning 88 percent of his first-serve points and never faced a break point. Zverev said in his post-tournament interview at BOSS Open:
Taylor, I’m f***** tired of you. I don’t wanna see you again over the next 2 to 3 years. Please stay away from me. Don’t come to Germany.
With this win, Fritz improved his head-to-head record against Zverev to 8-5. Zverev has now lost five matches in a row to the American. After the semifinal win over Ben Shelton, Zverev had expressed satisfaction with his form and preparation heading into Wimbledon.

Zverev has only made it as far as the fourth round at Wimbledon in past appearances. He will be hoping to advance further this year. However, he may be eager to avoid another clash with Fritz, who seems to have the upper hand in their recent meetings.
Taylor Fritz wins Stuttgart Open title
Taylor Fritz won his fourth grass-court ATP title and ninth overall by defeating World No. 3 Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(0) at the BOSS OPEN in Stuttgart. The final was interrupted by rain, but Fritz remained focused and served strongly throughout. He hit 11 aces, faced no break points, and won 88 percent of his first-serve points.

With this victory, Fritz improved his head-to-head record against Zverev to 8-5, winning their last five meetings. The win also pushed him back to No. 4 in the PIF ATP Rankings, overtaking Jack Draper. Fritz did not lose a single set all week and became the first player since October 2023 to win a title without dropping serve.
Among current players, only Novak Djokovic has more grass-court titles than Fritz. The American now has four, including three from Eastbourne. This achievement puts him on par with Matteo Berrettini and Nicolas Mahut in grass-court success.
Fritz entered Stuttgart hoping to regain form after an early exit at Roland Garros. Throughout the tournament, he looked sharp and confident. In the final, he broke Zverev in the first set and stayed solid in the second, despite a 65-minute rain delay. In the tiebreak, Fritz hit three winners and took advantage of Zverev’s errors to claim his first title of the season.
Taylor Fritz dents Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon hopes
Novak Djokovic climbed to No. 4 in the live ATP Rankings after reaching the French Open semi-finals, but his position quickly slipped a week later. The 24-time Grand Slam winner is focused on Wimbledon, aiming to surpass Margaret Court’s record for the most major titles. Since his 2023 US Open win, he has been stuck on 24 Grand Slams, with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz winning all the majors since then.

Djokovic hopes to make a strong push at Wimbledon, where he has claimed seven titles. Being one of the top four seeds would help him avoid early matchups with players like Alcaraz or Sinner. However, he is not expected to play any warm-up tournaments, which could hurt his ranking ahead of the event. This gives other players a chance to move ahead of him in the standings.
Taylor Fritz has already overtaken Djokovic in the live rankings after his recent title win in Stuttgart. Jack Draper also briefly held the No. 4 spot but is expected to drop to No. 6. He’ll have an opportunity to climb back up at the Queen’s Club, where he is seeded second and may face Alcaraz in the final.
With fewer than 100 points separating Djokovic, Fritz, and Draper, the rankings could shift again before Wimbledon. Despite possibly entering the tournament as the No. 6 seed, former British No. 1 Tim Henman believes Djokovic still has the best chance to win another major at the All England Club.
