Three years ago, Hanuma Vihari was a national hero, as he batted with a hamstring injury to draw a crucial Test at the SCG. Three years later, he was asked to step down as the captain of his domestic team as he scolded a youngster in the team with political connections.
He recently went on social media to reveal the injustice done to him by the Andhra Cricket Association, disclosing that he would never play for Andhra ever again. Vihari also showed that his teammates backed him.
The ACA recently released a statement in which they accused Vihari of abusive language and behavior ever since he returned from his time at Hyderabad. ACA also claimed that Vihari was okay stepping down as captain for Ricky Bhui.
Complaints were received from teammates, support staff, and ACA administrators about Vihari's use of foul language and abusive behavior. Previously, during the Mushtaq Ali tournament, the Andhra team manager lodged complaints about internal groupism.Andhra Cricket Association on Hanuma Vihari
ACA also asked to not take attention to Vihari as he had tried to leave the Andhra team many times in the past few seasons. Before the start of the 2023/24 season, he had applied for a NOC to play for Madhya Pradesh. He was wanted by the MP coach, Chandrakant Pandit, and was most probably going to lead the team as well. After the 2023 Duleep Trophy, where he captained the South Zone, his application was denied.
Former Andhra Pradesh CM condemns Andhra Pradesh board for mistreating Hanuma Vihari
Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu, was unhappy with the way Hanuma Vihari was treated by the ACA. He called out the influence the ruling party, YSR Congress Party, had on the administrative body.
He further asked Vihari to stay strong, saying his integrity and commitment to the sport shows volume. The former CM said he and the people of the state were with him, and hoped justice prevailed.
Not much is known on Vihari’s domestic future now. He had claimed that he was never going to play for Andhra again, and might need to start a search for a new team in the Indian circuit. Madhya Pradesh could be his next team, as he earlier tried to move to the team.
