After two weeks into this NFL season, the most debated topic was the benching of Bryce Young. Many took shots at the Carolina Panthers for giving up on last year’s first overall pick this early. They also pointed to the turbulent ownership of David Tepper as the reason. But a different argument has opened up today after replacement starter Andy Dalton torched the Las Vegas Raiders.

Bryce Young managed a grand total of zero touchdowns in his first two games. On the other hand, he threw three interceptions and had the worst QBR of any quarterback in the league.

In contrast, Andy Dalton threw three touchdowns while racking up 319 yards on the night. His aerial attack forced the Las Vegas Raiders‘ defense on their back foot. Now, not only did they have to contend with an unexpected surge in yards through the air, but they also had to contend against the Panthers’ ground attack.

This ensured the Carolina Panthers scored in every single quarter to keep the game away from the Raiders. Their 20-point lead entering the fourth ensured they go back home with a win. More importantly, this win will give the team a massive morale boost. They have been associated with bad football since last season.

Now everyone will sit up and take notice of the latest developments. As now it seems, head coach Dave Canales was right to bench Bryce Young.

Andy Dalton winning first game with brilliant performance has fans asking questions about Bryce Young

A seasoned quarterback like Andy Dalton allowed the team to experiment with their offensive schemes which resulted in this win. The coaching staff were not confident enough to run the same schemes with Young under the center.

Maybe Canales wanted to shed that conservative approach and bring back the joy of winning games. Then once the team found its mojo, maybe ease Young back in.

Fans, noticing this develop, turned their fingers towards Bryce Young. Even though it is just one game, they saw a glimpse of what the problem was in the first place. With those discussions running rampant on social media, check out some of the examples below;

It may be premature to call Bryce Young a bust. But if the Carolina Panthers keep playing better football with Andy Dalton under center, the 23-year-old quarterback might be staring at a long stint on the bench.

In next week’s fixture, the Panthers will take on the Cincinnati Bengals at their home. Dalton and Co. would like to build on this newfound form to a pale-looking Joe Burrow offense.
