Tua Tagovailoa sustained his third concussion since entering the NFL. The latest hit in the head took place on Thursday night during the Buffalo Bills game.
When the incident happened, the Miami Dolphins were down 31-10, with Tagovailoa already throwing three interceptions. As the game neared the end of the third quarter, the fifth-year veteran dashed to get a first down close to the Bills’ 20-yard line but slammed into safety, Damar Hamlin.
The replays showed Tagovailoa’s head tilting sideways, and he remained on the ground for two minutes as the medical team tended to him. Eventually, he managed to walk it off but did not return to the game. Skylar Thompson replaced the $53 million-a-year man for the rest of the game.

Head coach Mike McDaniel walked beside Tagovailoa and kissed him on the forehead before he disappeared inside the Hard Rock stadium tunnel. Later, Amazon announcer Al Michaels revealed after primary analysis that Tua Tagovailoa may have suffered another concussion.
Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown, who’s no stranger to such blows to the head, shared his thoughts on X (previously Twitter). The all-pro wideout advised the Alabama graduate to retire because the repeated hits to the head may cause CTE.

Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion history
Back in 2022, the 26-year-old fell on the hard turf while playing the Cincinnati Bengals in week 2. At first glance, the doctors thought it was a head injury but later demoted it to a back ailment.
Tua returned back in week 3 to play against the Bills. An investigation led by the NFLPA resulted in the firing of the independent concussion specialist who looked at the Dolphins quarterback.
Later, in week 16 against the Green Bay Packers, Tagovailoa suffered another concussion. He missed the last 2 games, but the Dolphins qualified for the playoffs.
Josh Allen sends prayers for Tagovailoa after his injury
The game was already out of the Dolphins’ hands, but the injury to Tua was salt in their wounds. After the game ended, the Amazon reporters found Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who completed 13/19 for 139 yards and 1 touchdown, and set up 2 rushing TDs for running back James Cook. They asked him about his opinion on Tua’s injury.
If you know Tua outside of football, you can’t help but feel for him… I’ve got a lot of love for him and I’m just praying for him and his family, hoping everything’s OK. But it’s tough, man. This game of football that we play, it’s got its highs and it’s got its lows… This is one of the lows.Josh Allen said (H/T: Associated Press)
So far, there hasn’t been an update about the severity of Tagovailoa’s injury. Regardless, the Dolphins and Mike McDaniel need to prepare for their next game against the Seattle Seahawks.
