Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi

New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium was established in 1883 and is the home ground of the Delhi Ranji team and the Delhi Capitals of the Indians Premier League (IPL). Located on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, this is the second oldest functional stadium in India after the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The stadium is owned by Delhi and District Cricket Association and has a capacity of 41,842. Formerly known as the Feroz Shah Kotla, it was renamed in 2019 after former DDCA President and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley after his death.

The first-ever Test match at this venue was played in 1948 between the hosts and West Indies. But it faced a ban of 12 months by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2009 for its unfit conditions when India locked horns with Sri Lanka in an ODI match. However, the match between the two countries was called off.

The stadium was criticized heavily due to smog in 2017 during a match between India and Sri Lanka. Players from Sri Lanka wore anti-pollution masks, and several of them had vomited regularly due to the severe pollution. Even India pacer Mohammed Shami was seen vomiting on the field.
