“I have given everything I have to running”: Track legend Allyson Felix announces retirement after spectacular career

United State’s great track and field star Allyson Felix has announced her retirement from the sport after a career that lasted three decades. During this time she won a record breaking 11 Olympic medals.

Recently, the 36-year-old said in an Instagram post that she would be embarking on her final year of her career as gratitude to the sport that she has loved over the years. “I have given everything I have to running and for the first time I’m not sure if I have anything left to give,” Felix said.

Felix is entering her final year in the sport soon. “I want to say goodbye and thank you to the sport and people who have helped shape me the only way I know how – with one last run. This season isn’t about the time on the clock, it’s simply about joy. If you see me on the track this year I hope to share a moment, a memory and my appreciation with you,” she added.

Felix is the most decorated woman in the history of Olympic track and field, as she won her first medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Her latest medal came in the 4x400m relay at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She is also the most decorated athlete- male or female- in the history of the World Championships, winning 18 medals, seven from individual events and 11 from relays.
