The 2022 Commonwealth Games has seen a fantastic 10 days of competition. As athletes from all over the world come together to celebrate their achievements and show off their skills on the grand stage, the men’s England relay team has certainly managed to do that. The men’s team has successfully managed to defend their title from the 2018 Commonwealth Games with a stellar performance in the men’s 4x100m relay.

This great achievement was also topped off by the fact that this was England’s first track and field gold medals at this particular Games. Ojie Edoburun was the anchor of the 4x100m quartet that cantered to gold on Sunday. Edoburun received the news that he would be a part of the relay just 9 days before the Games, after an injured Reece Prescod had to sit out.

The England men’s team of Jona Efoloko, Zharnel Hughes, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and Ojie Edoburun did a fantastic job, keeping up well ahead of the pace of their competitors to take the title in a time of 38.35s. “I’m just so happy to come in and fit in so well with the boys – for me, words can’t describe it,” said Edoburun according to Daily Mail. “I didn’t want to miss out on this special generation of athletes and I want to take this confidence into the European Championships (later this month). This is something we’ll cherish for the rest of our lives.”

England finished 0.35s ahead of silver medal winners Trinidad and Tobago, with Nigeria picking up bronze. While the women’s team also won a gold medal, there came some bad news for the women’s 4x400m relay team, who were stripped of their title because of a lane infringement.
