“24-carat diamond”: Neeraj Chopra yet again creates history; becomes first Indian to win Diamond League Trophy

Neeraj Chopra. Can’t stop, won’t stop. The young Indian athlete has become a phenomenon over the last year. After becoming Olympic Champion, it was just the beginning of his journey. He not only became the first Indian to win an athletics medal, but he did it in style as well after winning a gold.
He went on to take silver at the 2022 World Championships and now, to add to that, he has claimed his crown at the Zurich Diamond League. Chopra created history on the way, becoming the first Indian to actually win a medal at the Diamond League. Once again he did it in style with a gold.

Neeraj Chopra shines at the 2022 Diamond League; takes gold in javelin
Chopra threw a fantastic 88.44m to finish on top of the podium on 8th September. He finished ahead of Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch and Germany’s Julian Webber. While Vadlejch finished his attempts with a best throw of 86.94m, Chopra out threw him in the third attempt with a throw of 88.00m. His second attempt however, was the winning throw of 88.44m.
With this, Chopra competed his set of medals- gold at the Olympics in 2021, gold at the Asian Games in 2018, silver at the World Championships in 2022. The only event remaining from the list was the Diamond League, which he has now covered, and completed his much coveted set.
