La Liga side Atletico Madrid recently confirmed that defender Robin Le Normand has suffered from a tragic brain injury, resulting in subdural hematoma. The 27-year-old center-back suffered the injury against Real Madrid.
Robin Le Normand is set to be on the sidelines for an extended period, just two months after making a move to the Spanish capital from Real Sociedad. He has been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, after a severe head collision with Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni during a corner kick in stoppage time. He was initially treated on the pitch, following which club doctors and specialists performed a number of tests, revealing details of the horrific injury that he had sustained.
Le Normand, who most recently won the 2024 Euros with Spain, is expected to be treated with a lot of caution, owing to the gruesome nature of the injury and the bleeding caused by a burst blood vessel near the brain. However, its severity is yet to be ascertained, with some symptoms stating that he might suffer from post-traumatic amnesia. La Liga’s recent partnership with AFE group in concussion procedures resources could help the club review the incident in detail, for further assessment.

Atletico Madrid stunned after disastrous 4-0 defeat to Benfica in the Champions League
La Liga giants Atletico Madrid suffered a disastrous 4-0 defeat to Benfica in their UCL second league stage encounter in Lisbon. It marked their worst ever defeat in the last three years in Europe, hindering their hopes of winning a first UCL title.
Atletico had last suffered a defeat to Bayern Munich in 2021 by the same margin, in the group stages of the UCL. Kerem Akturkoglu opened the scoring for Benfica, followed by goals from Alexander Bah, Angel Di Maria and Orkun Kokcu. Diego Simeone was also critical of his side’s display, and stated that the home side took advantage of all the errors that Atletico had committed.
Benfica’s victory also equaled the biggest winning margin by any Portuguese team against a Spanish one, in the UCL. The Spanish side had previously won their UCL opener by a narrow 2-1 margin against RB Leipzig.
