The NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway marked the redemption of Austin Dillon. He secured back-to-back win, locking in his spot in the playoff and got over the dramatic post-season disqualification from 2024. He was reprimanded for wrecking Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin for the win last season.
The decision from NASCAR was significant as it not only killed some of the positive momentum the team gained but also cost them millions in the end-season payout. Austin Dillon was able to get over it soon, but his grandfather and team owner Richard Childress was hurt a lot as he felt like the sport, he gave his whole life to let him down at that moment.
One thing that I think really hurt him last year this Richmond race, going over this process, it stung to him because he felt like NASCAR kind of let him down in a way.
Austin Dillon said on post-race press conference via Speedwaydigest.com.
The Hall of Famer wasn’t fully over the disappointment, unlike the driver who knows he has to get over these incidents to get the best out of himself in the next events. But with the dominant win on Sunday, being the first RCR Chevy to lead 100+ laps in a race since Dale Sr. in 1998, might finally help him sleep peacefully.
They had to make a call. I got over it. He doesn’t get over those type of things. Hopefully this lets him sleep at night again to that point because this sport is special. It’s given our family a living and a lot of other families a living.
Austin Dillon added.
In a separate conversation, the two times Xfinity Series champion explained more about his personal feelings about the situation. He admitted that he is too tired to be angry over the past, as he has been racing with many constraints, including a broken rib. Hence, he is thankful to God and his team for getting him the opportunity to win.
I’m too tired to be angry. I mean, I got a little cold, a broken rib, a lot of adversity. Man, some things you don’t understand at the time. Come back around. God has a way of putting that timing together. I feel like I was probably the calmest I’ve ever been tonight in the car, winning the race. I didn’t act a certain way. I was just thankful for the opportunity.
Austin Dillon declared.
Austin Dillon is now determined get Kyle Busch back on victory lane
Now that his car is on the playoff, Austin Dillon and the whole RCR crew has another mission. The No:8 team over Kyle Busch has been winless since second half of 2023 and they are determined to end the streak. They have one regular season race to do it, to yield maximum benefit.

Going into the regular season finale at Daytona, Dillon has one plan, help them two-time champion to win. His personal goal is to collect some playoff points, while doing that to strengthen his place in the upcoming playoff battle.
We have to help our guy out in the 8, try to support him as much as we can, get another RCR teammate in there. He’s really good at Daytona. (I have to) do what I can, maybe try to get us bonus points, stages and stuff. The focus probably goes to the 8 now.
Austin Dillon said.
The comments from the veteran driver shows how much they want both of their cars in the playoffs. Kyle Busch will more support from his more than ever at Daytona and it would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the champion driver next week.
