WWE clearly has put a lot of trust into Austin Theory. Although he may not yet be the huge superstar that Vince McMahon thought he would be, the promotion has inserted him into some huge roles. He has beaten John Cena at WrestleMania and has appeared on screen with huge names like The Rock.
In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Theory revealed some behind-the-scenes details about his segment with The People’s Champion. Prior to their segment, the 27-year-old received a text from one of the writers asking him to come with them. Theory met up with some of the WWE higher-ups, like Triple H and Nick Khan. Then, they all made their way to meet The Brahma Bull so that no one would spot them.
They all met up inside a tour bus so that nobody saw The Rock. Thus, ensuring that his appearance on WWE programming did not get leaked. The Final Boss hyped Theory up about how great their session was going to be. Furthermore, he told him to just feel the moment and act accordingly.

On the September 15th, 2023, episode of SmackDown, the Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment made a surprise appearance and had an in-ring segment with Pat McAfee. He was then interrupted by Theory before berating him on the microphone and laying him out with a People’s Elbow. The former United States Champion said that he could tell when and what to say during the segment just by looking at the Great One’s eyes and facial expressions.
Austin Theory opens up about his failed Money in the Bank cash-in attempt
WWE saw a lot of potential in Austin Theory in 2022. They even gave him the Money in the Bank briefcase that year. However, it soon became evident that this was only a hollow victory. He was treated terribly while he held the briefcase. Furthermore, fans knew that there was no way he was going to win the WWE Undisputed Championship from Roman Reigns.
During the same interview, Theory revealed that he never felt as if there was ever a plan for him. He simply rolled with the punches during both his United States Championship runs and while he was Mr. Money in the Bank. During that time, a cash-in did not align with the company’s vision for Reigns.
Regardless, Theory said that he would have loved to cash in on Reigns, even if it was a failed attempt. Instead, the former WWE Tag Team Champion made history by being the first one to cash in on a mid-card title. Unfortunately, he would fail at that as well.
