‘I will miss you at the Olympic Games’ – PV Sindhu sends best wishes after Carolina Marin pulls out of Tokyo Olympics due to knee injury

Reigning Olympic champion Carolina Marin is set to miss the Tokyo Olympics. She has a torn ACL and will be undergoing a knee surgery later this week which will leave her on the sidelines for the Games. The 27-year-old tweeted the news of the development on Tuesday after having suffered an injury during training last week.

Following Carolina Marin’s announcement, PV Sindhu has come forward to send her best wished to the Spaniard. Marin is Sindhu’s nemesis on the court and she had lost to Marín in the Rio 2016 final. Sindhu has recorded her a video message wishing her a speedy recovery.

“So sorry to hear about your injury. Hoping that you will recover soon and come back stronger,” Sindhu was seen saying.

Marin became the first non-Asian Olympic women’s singles champion after her win against Sindhu in Rio. Recalling the game, the Indian shares that she will miss the contest at the Tokyo Games this time around. She adds that she is looking forward to their next encounter on the court as she wished her a fast recovery.

“I remember the last Olympic Games when we played in the final,” Sindhu said. “It was really good competing against you so I’m going to miss that again, and I’ve been missing you, seeing you on court. I will miss you at the Olympic Games but hope we compete against each other soon, so come back fast and recover soon. Lots of love.“

With Marin ruled out of the Tokyo Olympics, ace Indian shuttler Sindhu‘s chances of winning a medal at the gala event of sports has increased by folds. Sindhu trails the Spaniard 5-9 in their head-to-head record. The last time they played each other at the Swiss Open final earlier this year, Sindhu was comprehensively defeated in just 35 minutes.
