FC Barcelona have struggled to pull off results in the UEFA Champions League in recent years. Ever since the club won the competition in 2015, barring a semi-final run in 2019, the club have failed to make it past the quarter finals till date. However, the club haven’t shown signs of weakness ever since Hansi Flick took charge. The German tactician recently stated that the club are capable of winning the Champions League.
Flick has guided Barcelona to the top of the table in La Liga, with the club scoring 17 goals in the last five games, winning all five. As fans start to feel that the club may in fact have a chance in Europe, Flick has added to the ‘dream’ ahead of their season opener against AS Monaco. The club will also be looking to get back at the Ligue 1 club after losing 3-0 in the Joan Gamper trophy.
We can win the Champions League. Big clubs like Barca want to win titles and the UCL is the best competition in the world.Hansi Flick told the press
The former Bayern Munich boss also said that the club are ready to go up against the best. Fans recalled how the club were bound to reach the final of the UCL, until all went wrong in the quarter final against Paris Saint-Germain.
Ansu Fati set to make first appearance for Barca in over a year
Years after breaking into the first team at Barcelona, Spanish forward Ansu Fati finds himself in a difficult position. The youngster was once hailed as the ‘next big thing’, with the club even giving Lionel Messi‘s No.10 to the player years ago. However, recurring injuries and a lack of room in the first team forced the player to go on loan to the Premier League.
After a failed stint with Brighton, Fati is finally back at Barcelona and is fit to make the squad for the Monaco game. Reports state that the 21-year-old is ‘officially’ back from injury and can make an appearance for the club for the first time in over a year. Hansi Flick recently stated that the club ‘needs’ players like him and that he is ready to play.
Despite not making a UCL appearance in more than a year, he still holds the record for being the young player to score a goal in the competition. Lamine Yamal is 17 years and 68 days old and is no longer able to claim the same. Fans are excited to finally see both Yamal and Fati play for Barcelona. It is expected that Flick will give the latter minutes against Monaco when the Blaugrana take them on at Stade Louis II.
