FC Barcelona were in desparate need of a win in the Champions League after suffering a 2-1 defeat to AS Monaco in the first matchday. Boss Hansi Flick fielded Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal up front. The attacking trio did their job impeccably as they put 5 goals past Marvin Keller and BSC Young Boys.
The game sparked to life with a goal in the 8th minute by Lewandowski, who got on the end of a low driven cross by Raphinha at the far post. Raphinha then fired in a shot from close range after a blocked shot from Pedri fell at his feet. Minutes later, Inigo Martinez scored from a corner kick in the 37th minute to hand Barcelona a 3-goal lead ahead of half-time.
Lewandowski then made it 4-0 in the 51st minute from an easy tap-in to an unguarded goal. Just when the visitors thought the game was done, Alejandro Balde‘s driven cross deflected off the heel of Mohamed Ali Camara and fell into his own net.
The final score read 5-0 as Raphinha was awarded the Player of the Match for his stunning display.
Emotional Raphinha says he’s in the ‘best moment of his career’
Lamine Yamal may be the biggest talent at FC Barcelona at the moment. However, it is impossible to deny that Raphinha has been at the heart of Hansi Flick‘s side ever since he took charge of the club. The Brazilian has been in the form of his life this season, scoring 6 goals and making 3 assists in all competitions. The No.11 picked up a goal and an assist in the 5-0 win on Tuesday night.
The 27-year-old has started every game for the club this season, with reports even coming out that the medical team has asked him to put in lesser work, for fear of an injury.
As things stand, Barcelona are 10th in the Champions League table after securing their first win of the campaign. Moreover, Raphinha’s form will come in handy for the Blaugrana as they prepare to take on Deportivo Alaves and Sevilla in La Liga in the coming weeks. Even though Flick deflected a question probing whether the club could win ‘everything’ this season, he did assure that the ‘future is bright’ for Barca.
