Indian Super League 2020/21 champions Mumbai City FC on Tuesday confirmed the departure of Nigerian striker Bartholomew Ogbeche.

“All of us at Mumbai City would like to wish Bartholomew Ogbeche the very best as he leaves #TheIslanders,” the club announced via their social media handles.

The Nigerian born striker started his professional career with Paris Saint-Germain in 2001, where he scored six goals from 57 appearances before he left the club in 2005. After leaving the French club, he represented several clubs across various countries between 2005 – 2018 before arriving in India.

Bartholomew Ogbeche made his Indian Super League (ISL) debut for the NorthEast United FC against FC Goa on October 1, 2018. He found the net in his debut game for the Highlanders and started his ISL campaign on a positive note. In 18 games, Ogbeche scored 12 goals for the NorthEast United FC.

The former PSG player joined Kerala Blasters ahead of the 2019/20 edition of the ISL. He finished the season as the club’s all-time top scorer, having found the net 15 times from 16 appearances. Next season, he was roped in by Mumbai City FC and featured in all 23 games, including the two legs of the semi-final fixtures and the summit clash.

The 30-year-old player scored eight goals in the last season for the Islanders and played a key role in guiding the side to lift the silverware. He was a key asset for the Mumbai-based franchise last season, and his departure from the club might affect them in the upcoming season.

Bartholomew Ogbeche scored eight goals last season in the ISL, with his first goal of the season coming against Odisha FC. He converted a penalty at the 30th minute and gave his side a 1-0 lead, which they eventually won a margin of two goals.

He scored six more goals in the league phase in ISL 2020/21. The Nigerian players scored two goals each against ATK Mohun Bagan and Odisha FC. He also scored one goal each against Chennaiyin FC and Odisha FC.

Ogbeche scored his final goal of the season in the semi-final match against FC Goa.
