On Monday, Belgium booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a thumping 4-1 win over the United States in Seattle. Following their 4th goal in the second half stoppage time, the team trolled President Donald Trump by mocking his dance move.
The U.S. President came into the spotlight following his actions regarding USMNT’s forward Folarin Balogun. The U.S., who were one of the three co-hosts of the tournament, took on Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 clash in San Francisco.
Balogun had given his country the lead following his strike in the 45th minute. In the second half, he was sent off after consultation with VAR following his challenge on Tarik Muharemovic. Despite this red card, the U.S. held on and recorded a 2-0 victory.
This sending off became a huge trending topic on social media. Several users on X debated this decision by the officials. With the red card, Balogun was suspended for USA’s next game, a Round of 16 tie against Belgium.
Reports claimed that the team could not appeal this decision. Trump then stepped in and called FIFA president Gianni Infantino to discuss this situation.
FIFA would later rescind Balogun’s one-game suspension, allowing him to play against Belgium. This decision left the football world stunned.
The AS Monaco star did start the game on Monday. In the end, Belgium proved too strong for the United States. A brace from Charles De Ketelaere and strikes from Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku led them to a 4-1 victory. For the U.S., Malik Tillman had scored a direct free kick in the 31st minute that tied the game at 1-1.

With the win, Belgium advanced to their 3rd straight quarter-final in the World Cup. As for the United States, they are now 1-5 in WC Round of 16, with their only victory at this stage coming in the 2002 edition were they ended up losing 1-0 against Germany in the quarter-final.
Belgium also trolled United States with cheeky posts on social media
Belgium were through to the quarter-finals on Monday with a statement 4-1 victory over USA. Following their victory, the European nation trolled the Americans with cheeky posts on social media.

One of the biggest debates in sports is the use of the term “football.” While this word has been used to describe association football across the entire globe, America uses the word “soccer.”
Over the years, there have been several discussions regarding this. Donald Trump himself had urged the National Football League (NFL) to come up with a different name and told people to start calling “soccer” by its global name.
Following their win, Belgium poked fun at the co-hosts of the tournament. In a tweet on X, they expressed that the game was called “football.”

They will now turn their attention towards Spain, who knocked out Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal with a 1-0 win in Dallas, Texas. The winners of this quarter-final clash will take on the winners of the France-Morocco tie in the semi-finals.
