In his eight years as the Buffalo Bills quarterback, Josh Allen has been mic’d up on various occasions, resulting in several memorable moments. The 2024 MVP fondly remembers some of them.
In a recent appearance on the NFL Network’s “The Insiders”, Allen shared his experience wearing a mic during gamedays.
You feel something, you know, on your pads and you notice a little more camera action on you. So, it’s hard to miss, but it definitely changes how I talk a little bit.
Josh Allen told Tom Pelissero
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Bill Saul wore a mic for the first time at an NFL game, way back in 1967. It’s a tradition like no other. These days, multiple players can be seen wearing a mic on the field. It’s great for content.
There are tons of instances where a player is filmed alerting his teammates to be more mindful of their language if they are close by. Of course, some players blurt out the nastiest slang out of pure emotion. Fans and players alike get a kick out of watching and hearing the reply.
Allen tells his teammates to avoid telling him if there’s a mic on him, because it will be distracting.
I have told my team though, like, don’t tell me when I’m mic’d up. I don’t want to know. I don’t want to try to be different or say something different, but you quickly figure it out.

Josh Allen gives his take on the Bills firing Sean McDermott and the new era
The Bills are among the few teams to go toe to toe with the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC. However, they still lag behind the Chiefs in the medals column.

It was a similar story last year. With the Chiefs and the Ravens out of the race, the Bills became the favourites to win the conference and the Super Bowl. Despite reaching the divisional playoff game, they were outclassed by the Denver Broncos.
Not long after, the Bills fired Sean McDermott. The news badly affected Allen. He was in shock after hearing the news for the first time. The Bills appointed Joe Brady, their former offensive coordinator, as the new head coach. It’s a new era in Buffalo, but Allen still feels he let down McDermott. That said, he wants to redeem himself and the club by winning a ring.
We’ve obviously got a new head coach [Joe Brady], and so to have those memories being made in a new spot – and I think change is needed sometimes. Especially when we’ve been close in the past, even going back to 20-ish, 30-ish years ago, just how close the Bills have been to winning a Super Bowl – I think this is kind of a switch that was necessary and I’m very excited.

McDermott coached the Bills for nine years. In that span, he managed a 98-50 record in the regular season and an 8-8 record in the postseason.
Last year, Allen went 12-5, completed 319 passes (a career high 69.3%) for 3668 passing yards, threw 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also rushed for 579 yards and scored 14 rushing touchdowns. He won a fourth Pro Bowl honor.
