Anthony Edwards is widely regarded as one of the NBA’s best players today. Drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves as the number one pick in the 2020 NBA draft, Edwards has established himself as one of the leading faces of the league and has drawn comparisons with Michael Jordan for his style of play.

Meanwhile, many see Jordan as the greatest player ever to grace the basketball court. He accomplished everything during his time in the NBA and helped globalize the league.

Both stars have been compared for their athleticism, competitiveness, and offensive skill set. Edwards is considered by many as one of the best in-game dunkers today.

During a recent appearance at Adidas’ Believe That in the Philippines, the Wolves star was asked to stack himself up against some high flyers past and present. The young star surprised everyone by placing himself above the All-Time great as a dunker.

Yeah, I’m better than him. I’m cool.

Edwards has produced some of the best in-game dunks over the last few years. However, he has never taken part in the Dunk Contest so far in his career.

Meanwhile, Michael Jordan was recently ranked number two behind Vince Carter on Bleacher Report’s list of Top-50 greatest dunkers of all time. The Chicago Bulls legend won two Slam Dunk contests in 1987 and 1988.

While Edwards placed himself above Jordan, he conceded that the likes of Julius Erving, Dominique Wilkins, Blake Griffin, LeBron James, Aaron Gordon, Zach LaVine, and Carter were above him. He ranked himself above Ja Morant as well.

Anthony Edwards’ bold Michael Jordan claim is a strong opinion

Jordan and Edwards also have a relationship. During last offseason, Edwards contacted Jordan about some trouble he faced in the playoffs. The six-time champion revealed that he helped and gave some advice to the 25-year-old on how to handle double teams.

His advice seemed to have worked, as Edwards had his best season in terms of individual numbers. He came third in the scoring charts as he averaged a career-high 28.8 points, five rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 61 appearances last season.

Edwards is known for his confident personality; however, his bold claim of being a better dunker than Jordan generated a lot of buzz across social media. The Wolves guard has never participated in the Dunk Contest, so it is difficult to make any comparison.

However, at the end of the day, it is Edwards’ opinion, and it’s a strong claim. Modern-day NBA stars no longer participate in Dunk contests because they preserve their bodies for the grueling NBA season. But there is no denying that Edwards would stack himself up as a dunker against Jordan.

Anthony Edwards took a shot at Nike in a viral freestyle rap

Anthony Edwards is one of the few big names in the NBA to be signed with Adidas. The four-time All-Star signed with the global brand right after he was drafted in 2020. He later signed a lucrative contract extension in 2024.

After getting eliminated by Nike’s Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Semifinals last season, Nike threw a little shade at Edwards and Adidas. It looks like Edwards took the subtle jab more seriously than expected.

At the Adidas’ Believe That event, Edwards grabbed a live microphone and started rapping. He called out Nike and sparked a wave of reactions from the fans. He rapped:

Dope boy 95 AEs on. We don’t f**k with Nike; you can send them home.

Nike and Adidas have been the two biggest competitors in the sports market for a long time now. While Adidas still lags behind Nike, Edwards showed his loyalty and has been a worthy ambassador for the company. It will be interesting to see if Nike responds to Edwards and Adidas in the near future.
