Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner have shared a similar fate for the majority of this season. Both, having won the US Open, saw their 15-match winning streak come to an end at the China Open. German legend Boris Becker said that he has the perfect idea to end their synced result this year.
In January, Sabalenka claimed the women’s singles Australian Open after beating Qinwen Zheng in the final. In the men’s singles final, Sinner came from behind in a five-set thriller to beat Daniil Medvedev. In the recent North American hard court swing, both players produced stunning displays to go unbeaten.
Sabalenka defeated Iga Swiatek in straight sets in the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open and then beat American and home favorite Jessica Pegula to claim her second title of the season. She continued her form at the US Open to claim the women’s singles title. On the other hand, Sinner beat Frances Tiafoe in the Cincinnati final to win his fifth title of the year. He then earned his second Grand Slam at the US Open, beating Taylor Fritz in the final.
Sinner and Sabalenka’s 15-match unbeaten run ended at the China Open. While Sinner got to the final in Beijing, Sabalenka exited in the WTA 1000 in the quarterfinals after losing to Karolina Muchova. In light of this, Boris Becker shared an idea to end their synced results.
Meanwhile, Sinner is next taking part in the Shanghai Masters, where he will open his campaign on Saturday (October 5) against Japan’s Taro Daniel.
Aryna Sabalenka conqueror Karolina Muchova excited to reach China Open semifinals
Karolina Muchova was excited to end Aryna Sabalenka‘s 15-match winning streak. The World No. 2 was bidding for a third consecutive tournament victory at the China Open and led 4-2 in the deciding set. However, Muchova fought back to win 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-4.
It was Muchova’s third consecutive win against Sabalenka. After the match, she said that she fought for every ball and that it the effort was worth it to beat the Belarusian.
Muchova will next face Qinwen Zheng, who defeated Mirra Andreeva in the fourth round. Zheng is seeking her second tour-level title after winning the Palermo Ladies Open.
