Canelo Alvarez has sure made 2021 his year after his last fight. The Mexican boxing icon has been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of The Year Award 2021 and rightfully so.
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has been flawless in his entire boxing career. The fighter showed the world of boxing and sports that his career is nothing short of greatness. In 2021, Canelo Alvarez became the very first undisputed super-middleweight champion. The fighter made his dream come true as he defeated Caleb Plant in an exciting fight.
After fighting three times in the last 11 months, Canelo finally took Caleb Plant for his final match and his win against Plant was the icing on the cake. Alvarez managed to get what he always dreamed of, capturing all the belts in the 168-pound division. After a historic year like Alvarez had, it was only fair he was nominated for being the best sports personality of the year.

Canelo will be nothing short of proud as he gets nominated for this award among five other great athletes. If the boxer manages to win the award, he would have beaten the likes of Rachael Blackmore, Tom Brady, Novak Djokovic, Elaine Thompson-Herah, and Max Verstappen. The fighter has a great chance of winning the award with the kind of year he has had.
Canelo is currently the number one pound-for-pound boxer and is looking to make his return against Ilunga Makabu for the WBC cruiserweight championship. But that bout is not happening for quite some time given the Mexican is taking a little time off from the sport. With a boxing record of 57-1-2 and only 31 years old, Canelo is already one of the greatest boxers to have fought inside the ring.
