Legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather has received one of the biggest honors he could get in his lifetime. The government of Oklahoma has decided to dedicate a day in the year as “Mayweather Day” to honor the boxer’s feat in his career.
There is no name in modern boxing that rings as well as Floyd Mayweather. The legendary boxer has exceeded all expectations set for him in the sport of boxing and also in the world of business. The fighter is one of the most active faces in boxing having transcended all levels of greatness in terms of pure sporting and also entertainment.
The fighter has retired from professional boxing but has still stayed active by participating in multi-million exhibition bouts. His most recent outing was against YouTube boxer Logan Paul where he reportedly made $100 million. Floyd tweeted that he will be celebrating Mayweather Day a little late this year.
“I wanna thank the state of Oklahoma for my very own honorary day this year we will be celebrating Mayweather Day at a later date do to my busy schedule OKC, this day is long overdue! Don’t lose heart, will be together soon….March 2022. Details coming soon!!” wrote Floyd Mayweather in his tweet.

The story behind Floyd Mayweather Day
In the year 2018, the government of Oklahoma declared January 17th as Mayweather Day. Though the fighter mostly resides outside Oklahoma, the city honored a day to be celebrated in the name of the boxer. There were a lot of controversies surrounding this decision given Floyd’s past with domestic abuse.
Currently, Mayweather is reported to be in the works for an exhibition boxing match against Money Kicks. One of the greatest boxers of all time is set to light up the Burj Al Arab in UAE with this fight. This fight is one of the reasons why the fighter decided to celebrate Mayweather Day a little later in 2022.
