George Kambosos Jr
The Australian professional boxer, George Kambosos Jr produce a major upset in his latest boxing match against the American Lightweight boxer, Teofimo Lopez, and won the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring Lightweight titles. Kambosos won the fight by a split decision of the judges and ended Lopez’s undefeated streak.
Kambosos improved his professional boxing record to 20-0 with a win in this fight and he is looking forward to fighting one more undefeated fighter, Devin Haney. But the newly crowned champion won’t be shy to try his luck with the biggest martial arts promotion of the world, UFC in the near future.
Talking about his transition to MMA in his latest interview with Ariel Helwani for MMA Hour, George Kambosos Jr says, “I’m a very big fan of the UFC, I love the sport, I love combat sports in general and me and Alex Volkanovski have a good relationship as well.”
“He’s been supporting me, I’ve been supporting him and I’ve said I’m going to come back with all these belts. He’s the UFC featherweight king, and I’m the lightweight king and we’re going to help each other.” {H/t The Mac Life}
George Kambosos Jr wants to help Alexander Volkanovski to improve his striking
The UFC Featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski is a really good friend of George Kambosos Jr and over the years many UFC fighters leaped from the Octagon to the boxing ring, with Conor McGregor being the most popular case. But apart from Claressa Shields, no other boxer has made a move from the boxing ring to the Octagon.
That’s why Kambosos wants to help Volkanovski to improve his striking and in return learn more aggressive grappling for him. George Kambosos Jr continued, “How good would it be for me to sharpen up his striking for him and him to help me with my grappling for my inside game?”
“When I do get in the clinches I want to be able to use my weight and get a bit sharper on that side of the game, it’s a good thing. We’re both proud and we both got to the top of our sport and we’re both Greek as well, so there’s a lot of similarities.”
He continued, “Who knows, you might see me make my UFC debut in the future and he might end up in the boxing world soon, you never know! Maybe down the line, we’ll see.” {H/t The Mac Life}
