India assured of five more medals at Asian Boxing Championships 2021

India has got off to a rollicking start at the Asian Boxing Championships 2021. The Indian boxers have already assured five medals with the likes of Sanjeet, Sakshi, Jaismine Lamboriya, Simranjit Kaur and Shiva Thapa advancing to the semifinals. They added to the seven medals, including that of six-time world champion M C Mary Kom, that were assured on the day of draws.
India Open gold medalist Sanjeet defeated Jasur Qurbonov of Tajikistan 5-0 to enter the semifinals. He will be going toe to against last edition’s silver-medallist Sanjar Tursunov of Uzbekistan. Shiva Thapa too booked a spot in the semifinal with a convincing 5-0 victory against Kuwait’s Odah. It will be Thapa’s fifth consecutive medal at the Championship.
In the women’s competition, Sakshi edged past Tajikistan’s Ruhafzo Haqazarova 5-0 in the 54 kg category to set up a clash against top seed Dina Zholaman of Kazakhstan. Jaismine toppled Oyuntsetseg Yesugen of Mongolia 4-1 and will be up against Vladislava Kukhta of Kazakhstan next up.
Olympic bound Simranjit defeated Raykhona Kodirova of Uzbekistan 4-1 in the 60 kg category. The women boxer who recently recovered from COVID-19 will be up against Kazakh Rimma Volossenko in the semifinals.
Olympic bound men pugilists including Amit Panghal to kick off Asian Boxing Championships campaign today
Defending champion Amit Panghal will be kicking off his campaign in the tournament against Mongolia’s Kharkhuu Enkhmandakh. The two last squared off at the 2020 Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Amman, Jordan where the Indian had emerged triumphant in a grueling contest.

Asian Games champion Vikas Krishan will square off against Iran’s Moslem Malamir. On the other hand, last edition’s silver-medalist Ashish will take on World Championships and Asian Games silver-medallist Abilkhan Amankul of Kazakhstan. The third day of the Championship will be a test of the trio’s preparations ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.
The Asian Championship has turned out to be a great success for India’s Olympic bound boxers. With over 10 medals assured already, it will be yet another successful campaign for the Asian powerhouse.
