“It f****** killed me”- Mike Tyson remembers losing his mind over too much money only to realize he was broke after he finished his boxing career

Mike Tyson was an icon back in the late 80s and early 90s, he became the youngest heavyweight boxer and was known worldwide for his ferocious personality and boxing skills.Tyson was everywhere, and due to this, he earned a lot of money and enjoyed a lavish lifestyle. From buying cars, and mansions to exotic tigers, Tyson has done it all.

However, all that money got to him and later he regretted it. Talking about it in his Podcast, Tyson mentioned how fighters nowadays lose focus after getting huge fight purses. He also talked about how he made a lot of money and never thought it would be exhausted until it did and left the fighter in bankruptcy.

He said: “Fighters make a lot of money and that’s what destroyed some fighters. It f**** killed me. I thought I could never stop buying houses and cars for girls and friends. Then you come with reality and this stuff stops. When I finished boxing I was broke, the great Tyron was broke.”  Tyson back in the day was careless with his money which resulted in ‘Iron Mike’ losing a lot of his money after he retired.

How did Mike Tyson go broke after earning millions of dollars through his fights?

Tyson in his fighting career was a huge draw, maybe the biggest in his era due to his fighting style as well as the controversies that revolved around him. Tyson earned a lot but spend most of it on cars, mansions, and parties as there was nobody to stop him. Mike revealed that he didn’t keep the money in the banks so he could spend it anytime anywhere.

“A guy like me back then I was making 20-18 million dollars. So I am doing whatever I want and I don’t have, nobody got a chain on me and said hey Mike come back that’s a little bit too much. I don’t wanna put my money in no damn bank. You crazy? I wanted it in my house just blow it all every second of it,” Tyson said in his podcast.

Tyson accumulated over $400 million but lost most of it. He even sued his promoter Don King for frauding his money. With that luxurious lifestyle and spending, in 2003, Tyson was declared bankrupt. Hopefully, he bounced back and used his fame to start over again and own successful businesses.
