“Focus on your career,” Canelo Alvarez responds to Ryan Garcia picking GGG over him in the trilogy fight

“Focus on your career,” Canelo Alvarez responds to Ryan Garcia picking GGG over him in the trilogy fight

Canelo Alarez- Ryan Garcia

Undisputed super middleweight Canelo Alvarez and Ryan Garcia are still not over having a little bad blood against each other ever since Garcia left Canelo’s coach Eddy Reynoso’s team. Alvarez last fought having faced defeat in nearly 9 years at the hands of Russian light-heavyweight Dmitry Bivol. Alvarez is now going to face his rival, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for the third time on September 17, 2022. The first fight was a draw and the second fight was a close decision victory by Alvarez.

Garcia is going to fight Javier Fortuna on July 16, 2022. Garcia returned to the ring after more than a year of layoff on April 2022 when he defeated Emmanuel Tagoe via the decision to stay undefeated. If Garcia gets past Fortuna, he has his eyes set on Gervonta Davis, with whom Garcia has shared a lot of back and forth against him through interviews and on social media. Garcia is 22-0 with 18 wins via knockout.

Garcia and Alvarez used to be teammates that were coached by Eddy Reynoso. Reynoso has been training Alvarez since day 1 but he’s also known for helping other fighters as well. Last year only, Garcia decided to leave Reynoso’s team. This spiked a little bit of heat on social media between Garcia and Alvarez with Alvarez questioning Garcia’s dedication to being the best in boxing. Garcia did revert back saying he is not distracted from his goal and wishes nothing but the best to Alvarez for his future. The beef cooled down then and there itself.

In a recent interview, Garcia claimed that he has an intuition of GGG winning the trilogy fight against Alvarez. This might also come from Alvarez picking Gervonta Davis as his favourite boxer on multiple occasions. Alvarez responded back saying “He’s just mad, he’s no more in the team. But he’s a little kid. My advice – focus on your career, win a world title first, then talk about other people. Because you’ve accomplished nothing.” [h/t Michael Benson via DAZN-Boxing]

What do you make of this back and forth between Garcia and Alvarez yet again? But regardless, the beef seems to be respectful so far. Where do you see Garcia’s potential peaking in the future, do you see him becoming an undisputed world champion in boxing? Also, who do you think wins between Canelo and his next opponent Gennady Golovkin in their trilogy?
