There are only a few people in this world who would turn down a cash cow of a fight like Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather and UFC boss Dana White is one of them. The president of Ultimate Fighting Championship has a few fights planned out for his Irish superstar and unfortunately, a rematch against a legendary boxer is not one of them.
Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor really broke all records and opened a lot of doors in combat sports with their historical cross-promotional boxing match in 2017. Both the legendary fighters made a stunning amount of money and entertained the entire world with their amazing boxing match. The fight took place at the T-Mobile Arena and UFC boss Dana White was one of the main reasons why this fight took place.
Recently Conor and Floyd hinted at a potential rematch in the boxing ring on the Irishman’s return from injury but UFC boss White has absolutely shut down those rumors. Ahead of the blockbuster pay-per-view event at UFC 276, Dana sat down for an interview with TMZ Sports and responded to the rumors of a rematch between Conor and Floyd. If you were a fan with hopes of that super fight happening again, you might want to turn down the optimism a few notches because White isn’t interested one bit in seeing that fight happen again and he has his reasons.
Dana White says Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather 2 is just “all talk”
“That is definitely just people talking,” responded Dana to the rumors suggesting a rematch between the two stars is in the making. “I have less than zero interest in seeing that again. I didn’t even know that [Conor’s recent social media hint on the rematch], I haven’t seen it,” said Dana talking to TMZ Sports.
Though Dana turns down the possibility of a boxing match against Floyd, the UFC boss is very interested to see the Irishman fight one of UFC’s biggest entertainers right now, Michael Chandler. Both the promotion and the fighters are down for this matchup and it has created a lot of interest online. “The Notorious One” is finally back to training after his brutal injury at UFC 264.
Conor is currently looking to make a comeback in 2022 and has a lot of options on his table to choose from. The UFC boss has hinted that a fight between Conor and Chandler is highly likely and if that is the case, the fans are in for a treat. Floyd on the other hand has been churning out money like a pro with exhibition bouts across the world past his retirement. Would you like to see Mayweather vs McGregor 2 as a fan?
