“He had Jake Paul flustered,” Chael Sonnen reviews Hasim Rahman Jr’s press conference and previews his next fight

Jake Paul vs Hasim Rahman Jr- Chael Sonnen

MMA Legend Chael Sonnen talks as much about boxing as MMA these days, thanks to Jake Paul. Paul’s next fight is going to be against Hasim Rahman Jr, and Sonnen is quite surprised by how good Rahman Jr is, both inside the ring and on the mic. Rehman Jr is a second generation fighter who is the son of former heavyweight champion of the world Hasim Rahman Sr. He is currently 12-1 in his overall MMA career with 6 wins via knockouts.

Paul on the other hand is a Youtuber-cum-boxer who is 5-0 and has 4 wins via knockouts over the likes of former MMA champions Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley. Rahman Jr was the not the original opponent Paul was supposed to fight. Paul was supposed to fight Tommy Fury, son of former boxer John Fury and younger brother of WBC heavyweight champion of the world, Tyson Fury. But Fury had to pull out due to transportation issues.

In one of the videos of his Youtube channel, Chael Sonnen gives his reaction to the press conference between Paul and Rahman Jr and also his preview for the fight.

“I think he had Jake flustered a little bit,” says Sonnen “I went down a Rahman rabbit hole, the only fight I saw in completion was the one he lost, even with that in mind, this guy can box… I believe this is a licensed fight under The New York State Athletic Commission, which would make me think possibly it’s 10 rounds but that’s very relevant and I would favour that to Rahman…” continues Sonnen followed by telling the physical and psychological leap it would require for an 8-round fighter like Paul to fight 10 to 12 rounds.

“Jake Paul was the favourite going to this fight, I dismissed this guy- ‘Come on, Rahman Jr, wants more money, guy’s a bum’- well no, he’s not, he’s not,” said Sonnen.

What do you make of Sonnen’s thoughts on Rahman Jr? Do you think Rahman Jr will hand Paul his first ever loss in a boxing match? Who do you think wins and how? Do you think Paul is doing a fair job of drawing more attention to the sport of boxing? Where will you put Paul amongst the most recognizable names that ever entered into the sport of boxing?
