Devin Haney is the Undisputed WBC lightweight champion. He has held the title since 2019 after defeating Xolisani Ndongeni. He will compete against Vasiliy Lomachenko to defend his titles on 20th May 2023. Haney went on the George Jenko podcast to discuss preparation for his upcoming about. He talked to Jenko about his Islamic faith and fasting for Ramadan.
Devin Haney said, “I would do my strength and conditioning at day time and boxing training at night time. I want to train at the highest I can, and at the hardest I can and train harder than I did the last camp. I want to push myself to the limit, but it’s hard to do that with no fuel, and I am supposed to fast, but I get a pass as Allah understands that. This is for my hob and how I feed my feed my family.”
It is not easy to compete with fasting throughout the training camp. However, Haney takes some leniency with his fasting to train properly. He feels that his savior and protector, Allah understands his situation. Haney defeated a dangerous George Kambosos Jr in back-to-back contests in 2022. He showed everyone why he was the best lightweight boxer on the planet in those victories.
He will face a tricky opponent in Vasiliy Lomachenko to defend his titles. Lomachenko is the most outstanding amateur boxer of all time. Loma won two Olympic gold medals during his day as an amateur boxer. Haney will look to defeat Lomachenko and establish himself as the best lightweight boxer in the world.
Devin Haney critiques Vasiliy Lomachenko
In an interview, WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney took shots at his next opponent Vasiliy Lomachenko. The undefeated boxer will take on Lomachenko in May 2023. Loma is known for his quiet nature and laid-back personality. However, Haney took issue with Loma not promoting their upcoming fight.
Haney said, “Loma doesn’t want to sell the fight. I knew he would be quiet. He should be quiet. He’s on his way out.” Lomachenko is a three-division world champion and will look to defeat Haney to become the best lightweight boxer in the world.
They were supposed to fight last year, but Loma declined in favor of serving his nation Ukraine, during the Russian invasion. Haney instead fought Kambosos Jr in a back-to-back contest. He defeated Kambosos Jr comfortably and called out Loma for a future title bout.
