Deontay Wilder has confirmed Anthony Joshua as his opponent of choice for the upcoming January bout. The bout has been mutually agreed upon following Joshua’s victory over Robert Helenius. Helenius replaced Dillian Whyte due to a failed drug test. VADA canceled Whyte and Joshua’s long-anticipated rematch because of the failed drug test.
Joshua knocked out Helenius in the seventh round. Joshua struggled to find his rhythm until he landed the knockout punch ESNEWS asked Wilder about his fight against Helenius in a recent interview. Deontay Wilder said he knocked out Helenius in round 1 which is a stark contrast to Joshua’s performance. When the interviewer asked Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott to compare the two KOs against the same opponent, Malik scoffed. Furthermore, he stated that Wilder is the ‘Picasso of body-bag knockouts’.
In addition, Malik Scott indicated that Wilder’s knockout remains the superior one. Furthermore, Malik stated that Wilder took little to no time to finish off Helenius, while Joshua struggled to win. In addition, he added that Joshua took damage whereas Wilder emerged unscathed.
Wilder then mentioned the threat that he brought to Joshua. He stated that they could not determine the final outcome entirely until they entered the ring. However, Wilder along with fighters like Shakur Stevenson remains confident of coming out victorious.

Joshua and Wilder have highly anticipated their match-up coming up. A few years ago both fighters were at the pinnacle of their careers and were heavyweight champions. Joshua and Wilder had a knockout rate of 100% a few years before their careers began to decline.
After his KO loss with Andy Ruiz, Joshua’s career began to decline, and the loss seemed to affect him mentally. However, Joshua was able to reclaim his belts and heavyweight champion title in his rematch against Ruiz. Subsequently, his fight against Oleksandr Usyk resulted in more losses. Usyk surprisingly outboxed Joshua despite fans assuming he would KO him.
In their rematch, the outcome did not differ. Similarly, Wilder’s career decline started after he lost his trilogy match against Tyson Fury. The result of the upcoming January bout between them has the potential to kickstart either one of their careers.
