Floyd Mayweather, one of the biggest boxing stars of the last decade, failed to sell out his most recent exhibition bout. Mayweather fought Aaron Chalmers at the O2 Arena in London on February 25. However, the fight failed to attract audiences because the 20,000-person Arena was mostly empty.
Mayweather has a perfect professional boxing record of 50-0 and is considered one of the greatest defensive fighters of all time. Since his retirement in 2017, Mayweather has participated in various exhibition bouts against the likes of Logan Paul, Deji Olatunji, Mikuru Asakura, etc. In these fights, Mayweather continued to make millions by selling big crowds and sponsorships.
After his successful exhibition bout, Mayweather went public to say that he was working fast and making money. He also criticized fans who mocked him for holding exhibition bouts.
He said: “Who really is the smartest one in the sport of boxing?” If you guys don’t want to see me do any exhibitions, don’t come and don’t watch. “When it comes to legalised bank robbery, I’m the best.”
However, it seems the boxer is currently failing to do so, as the fans are not prying watching his exhibition bouts. It would be interesting to see if the boxer could find another way to bring back his hype among boxing fans.
Twitter reacts to Floyd Mayweather not being able to sell the O2 Arena
Floyd Mayweather has long been regarded as one of the boxing world’s most successful businessmen. The fighter already had a lot of detractors who accused him of prioritizing money over legacy, and Mayweather has openly accepted that criticism without hesitation.
Following the recent incident of the empty O2 Arena, Twitter roasted the legendary boxer, labeling him ‘washed and irrelevant’.
Mayweather has already cemented his place as one of the best to ever set foot inside the boxing ring. Now that he’s retired, he mostly wants to earn as much money for his family. While many mock the fighter, others consider this a great tactic.
