Gervonta Davis has been a rising star in the boxing world with his impressive boxing skills and personality. Furthermore, he has been getting recognition and support from Floyd Mayweather since the start of his career. Subsequently, Mayweather asserted that Davis is the future of the sport, and Davis has been living up to that claim.

In addition, Davis tends to follow the ‘Doghouse rule’ during sparring, which is mainly used in Mayweather’s boxing gym. The rule involves two fighters boxing without any rounds or breaks until one of them is stopped completely. Furthermore, Devin Haney, who has always been a part of the Mayweather promotion, once sparred with Davis.

Former professional boxer Adrien Broner stated that Haney was 17 during this sparring session and overwhelmed Davis, who was a pro boxer. This led to the social media rumor that Haney beat Davis, and Davis responded to a tweet by stating:

Motherf***er can’t even stop someone with 8oz [gloves] on, you think he can stop someone with 14 or 16?

Subsequently, Broner stated that Haney had the upper hand at one point of the sparring, which started the rumor that Haney beat Davis. However, Davis has been quick to shoot these claims down by asserting that Haney did not stop him.

Since there is no footage of the sparring video, these claims cannot be verified and are left for speculation. Hence, Davis did not necessarily have to respond to the Twitter troll.

Gervonta Davis says he is better than Mike Tyson

Davis is known for his devastating punching power and currently holds the WBA (Regular) lightweight title. In his most recent bout, he defeated Ryan Garcia by knockout in the seventh round, handing Garcia his first career loss.

Everyone knows that Davis is a scary fighter with a ton of punch power which he can use to easily KO his opponents. Hence, it’s no surprise that people have compared him to Mike Tyson.

During his prime, Tyson earned the nickname “Baddest Man on the Planet” and he completely dominated inside the ring. But according to Davis, that comparison doesn’t mean as much as people in the boxing world think it does.

Subsequently, in Davis’s opinion, he is more proficient in boxing than Tyson. Furthermore, Davis views himself as an all-around boxer and refers to “Iron Mike” as more of a brawler. While acknowledging that Tyson was technically proficient, Davis simply believed that he was the better technical boxer.
