Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will be fighting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. After being unsatisfied with his career, Ngannou left the UFC due to a dispute relating to his contract. Subsequently, Ngannou was able to secure a profitable deal by signing with PFL to start his boxing career.
The ‘Predator’ and ‘Iron Mike’ held a media workout in Las Vegas. During an hour-long open workout, Ngannou, a former UFC heavyweight champion, trained alongside Tyson. In addition, he also trained with former contender Carlos Takam. Subsequently, while the event was fun and served its purpose, it seems to have not impressed John Fury. Furthermore, John stated on his Instagram:
I hope that's a joke, intending to be a laugh. If it's not, he doesn't have a prayer; he has no chance. He won't get out of the first round; it will be Tyson's fastest knockout."
Hence, after witnessing the open workout, John questioned if Ngannou was going easy on the pads. In addition, John stated that Ngannou is in big trouble if that is his best performance after training for his fight.
Furthermore, Fury stated that Ngannou’s performance was a disgrace to the sport and disrespectful to the Furys. Subsequently, Fury mentioned that Ngannou should not hold open workouts if that is how he conducts them. Moreover, the fact that John Fury named Tyson Fury as an ode to Mike Tyson adds to the charm of this crossover fight.
Mike Tyson is impressed with Francis Ngannou’s boxing
Ngannou was able to secure former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson as his trainer for his fight against Fury. Ngannou met Mike on his Hotboxin with Mike Tyson podcast and asked him for this request before the fight was set.
Furthermore, following the open training session, Mike weighed in on Ngannou’s progress after training him. While John was completely unimpressed, Mike has been actively praising and acknowledging Ngannou’s progress. Subsequently, Mike called Ngannou one of the greatest fighters in the world and complimented how fast he had been learning things.
Mike also said that Ngannou doesn’t remind him of any fighter and is rather an entity of his own in a unique way. In addition, Mike is confident that Ngannou can achieve greatness and has the potential to be the best. Furthermore, Mike has stated that Ngannou only needs to land a few shots because of his destructive punching power.
