Mike Tyson is one of the most popular boxing figures of this generation. He is also a Christian turned Muslim who converted early in the 90s during a straining period in his life. A clip of Mike Tyson crediting Islam for bringing him humility and getting rid of his ego made rounds on social media.

A woman asked Tyson what inspired him to accept Islam and how it impacted his heart’s state. Mike Tyson has talked about his relationship with God in multiple instances. This is what he said: 

Absolutely because I've learned in life you have to worship somebody else bigger than yourself. I only knew worshipping myself because I was always told to believe in myself. The connection with me and Allah is just what it is. It's who I am.

Mike Tyson converted to Islam in 1992. His conversion took its due process that began before he went to prison. Eventually, during his incarceration for r*pe, Tyson converted to Islam. Malcolm X influenced Tyson’s conversion, and he found solace and hope in Islam. Tyson’s newfound faith played a crucial role in his rehabilitation, guiding him toward a more balanced and reflective approach to life.

Mike Tyson’s professional boxing career began in 1985 at 18. Tyson is the youngest boxer to win a heavyweight title. He claimed his first belt at 20 years, four months, and 22 days old. He was also the first heavyweight boxer to hold WBA, WBC, and IBF titles. Tyson’s professional record stood at 50-6, with 44 knockouts at the time of his retirement. He was the undisputed Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World from 1987 to 1990.

Earlier this November, Tyson attended the 2023 Miami International Friends of Israeli Defense Forces (FIDF) Night of Solidarity. The event raised nearly $10 million for Israel. Tyson’s supporters were confused about his attendance because he was a Muslim. Tyson clarified that a friend invited him and did not know about the fundraising. He also said that he didn’t donate any money.
