The Paul brothers are the polarizing figures in the combat sports world. The elder one, Logan Paul, recently came up with a surprising revelation. He claimed that he turned down a huge opportunity. The YouTuber said he was offered a fight against Mike Tyson.
This bombshell came during a recent episode of Logan Paul’s podcast. He admitted receiving an offer with the chance to box Tyson before his younger brother, Jake Paul. Paul said he was offered the fight but not with the Netflix involved. This is what he said:
I was offered (a fight with Mike Tyson) but not for Netflix. And not for a big a** bag (of money). It was just like this…I have been asked before. 'Do you think you can beat Mike Tyson?' My answer is yes. I just think he's too old; it's crazy.Logan Paul via IMPAULSIVE
Logan went a step further. He said that Mike Tyson was now old. He then confidently said that he could defeat the legendary knockout artist. The 28-year-old has certainly improved his boxing skills in recent years. However, dismissing Tyson’s abilities seemed extremely premature and disrespectful.
Oddsmakers strongly disagree that Logan could’ve beaten Tyson. Various sportsbooks opened Jake Paul as a massive +1200 underdog for the unique event. The younger Paul has a better record than his older brother in boxing. It is safe to say that Logan’s chances against Tyson are not any better than Jake Paul’s.
Jake Paul and Mike Tyson set to fight despite glaring age difference
YouTube star turned-boxer Jake Paul has secured a fight. He will step into the ring against legendary heavyweight Mike Tyson. The unprecedented event was announced for July 20th at AT&T Stadium in Texas. It will stream live globally on Netflix in the platform’s latest combat sports venture.
Tyson will return from a three-year layoff at 57 years old. His last bout was in 2020. It was an exhibition draw against another retired fighter, Roy Jones Jr. The 27-year-old Paul has rapidly ascended the boxing ranks as an influencer. He currently owns an official professional record of 9-1 with seven knockouts. The ‘Problem Child’ recently knocked out Ryan Bourland in his last bout.
Paul’s brash persona and ability to generate mainstream buzz made this a must-see event. Facing off against one of the most iconic and feared punchers ever adds immense intrigue. The age gap and stark difference in accomplishments sparked widespread criticism. However, the bout’s commercial appeal is undeniable, given both fighters’ star power. It has the potential to shatter streaming and pay-per-view viewership records.
