When I wasn’t an Olympic champion, yet he used to say to his friends that I would become an Olympic champion...But they would say to this: 'Who? Sanya? Stop joking around. How can he reach that level from here, Simferopol?... And he could beat them up for not believing!Oleksander Usyk on TNT Sports
He went on to state that his father’s belief in him was unshakeable. When they refused to believe in his potential, Usyk’s father was not afraid to take matters into his own hands to convince them. He continued:
He could be quite persuasive when he needed to be!Oleksander Usyk on TNT Sports
Tragically, Usyk’s father passed away soon after his son’s Olympic victory. Usyk shared with a heavy heart that he did get to see Usyk attain that Olympic champion status. But regrettably, Usyk could not present his father with the gold medal in time. This touching narrative underscored the unyielding faith and determination that propelled Oleksandr Usyk toward becoming a true boxing champion, with neverending support from his father.
Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk’s highly anticipated fight postponed
The highly anticipated heavyweight title fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury has encountered a delay. Instead of the previously scheduled December date, the undisputed championship showdown will now happen in February, according to an ESPN report. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is still the anticipated host city.
The Fury vs. Usyk plans were originally unveiled ahead of Tyson Fury’s non-title matchup with Francis Ngannou. The contest was initially set for December 23, but Ngannou offered a more challenging fight than anticipated. This led to a split decision victory for Fury who endured two cuts and even a knockdown.
Fury’s most recent title fight was his defense of the WBC title in December 2022 against Derek Chisora. Meanwhile, Usyk’s most recent appearance was in August when he defended his WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO titles with a knockout victory over Daniel Dubois. The clash between Fury and Usyk is a highly significant event in the heavyweight division. This match has been eagerly anticipated for several years now.
