Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo recently clashed inside the ring at their highly anticipated undisputed bout. The matchup was very close since both boxers made their professional debuts two decades ago. Furthermore, Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo had a similar number of professional boxing fights, but the latter remained undefeated.

However, Alvarez had suffered two losses in his professional boxing record against Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol. Hence, the matchup was very close, and people were criticizing Alvarez for his underwhelming performances in his last fights. Subsequently, Alvarez was able to win the bout via unanimous decision after dominating Charlo for 10 rounds straight.

Professional boxer Shakur Stevenson has reacted to the fight by stating, “Canelo is a great fighter. I don’t take nothing away from him. I see a lot of holes(in his game). That’s why his coach kept saying to him, Don’t get over confident.” Hence, Stevenson does not want to invalidate Alvarez as a boxer, but he noticed several flaws in his fighting style.

The 26-year-old also brought up how Alvarez’s coach kept reminding him not to be overconfident from the corner of the ring. Furthermore, Stevenson also commented on how Canelo was swinging big punches at Charlo instead of being swifter while attacking.

The 33-year-old is well known for his head movement and swift six-punch combos that he launches at close range. Hence, since Alvarez was loading up and swinging big punches, his fighting style appeared different in his fight with Charlo. Furthermore, Stevenson and other fighters like Terence Crawford and Chris Eubank Jr. have stated that Charlo only tried to survive.

Canelo Alvarez has been delivering underwhelming performances epically after his upsetting loss against Dmitry Bivol. Hence, Alvarez was highly motivated to prove himself as a boxer and to prove Jermell Charlo wrong after his trash talk. Subsequently, Canelo’s performance against the previously undefeated light middleweight champion satisfies most people.

Most fans reacted with a lot of distaste to Stevenson’s criticism of Alvarez, since the latter is considered the current face of boxing. In comparison, Stevenson has only been a professional boxer since 2017 and has not fought great boxers. Hence, fans dismissed Stevenson’s claim, as Alvarez is way beyond his level.
